He isn’t the favorite because WS is too runable. That said I wouldn’t be shocked if he found a way to win either. He is getting up there in age but is still running like the goat.
I’m doubtful he summited Everest based on the evidence available. I’m not losing sleep over it one way or the other.
Yes he will win WSER and yes his Everest accomplishment is legit. This man is of the highest character and cares about preserving the history of mountaineering, not lying to be a part of it.
Scott Jurek said just yesterday on the YouTube video for "Singletrack" (its also a podcast) that both he and Killian were banned for a year for whereabouts failures...or at least Scott was and he alludes to Killian being on it, as well.
They were talking about Lance Armstrong in trail running and ultramarathoning and rules/doping. Basically said drug testing is still the wild west in ultrarunning and he doesn't even know who tests or if they even test at Western States.
It's an interesting listen for the 2-3 minutes they are talking about.

Scott definitely did not say he or Kilian was banned. He said he was "on whereabouts" for a year after his 24 hour effort, and he said maybe Kilian might have been the only other runner on whereabouts. But nothing about being banned.
Okay, okay. Re-listened to it. Upon first listen, I took at as he (and Killian) were banned. On whereabouts is definitely not the same as being banned for wherebouts.
Weather looks like it's gonna be hot, reaching 94°F (34°C) in Auburn. I'll guess a bunch of people go out hard and blow up in the heat. If I was picking between Killian and the field, I'll take the field. Farvard and Jones are back, as is Adam Peterman and Vincent Bouillard won last year's UTMB.
iRunFar as usual has great coverage including a men's and women's preview and a bunch of pre-race interviews:

Not sure why 2 would downvote your post, I think it is the most succinct and accurate of any in the thread. Killian has more advantages the more technical and steep, WSR is not it. It is an above average temperature day, who had the best heat training build up?
PS. While you are debating that, can someone tell me what the conclusion on his Everest stuff was? Faked or legit?
I remember talking to a trail fan a few years ago and he said he didn't care much about Everest. To me, it's very meaninfgul. I foudn this on reddit.

It has been shown that he (Kilian Jornet) was fabricating GPS data. 4 people on the mountain that day, two Americans and two Indians, just a few hours behind, stated that he was nowhere to be seen, coming or going. Combine that with the fact that there is nary any evidentiary data to support said climb, the conclusion is as obvious as it is obnoxious: He, Jornet, did not summit, nor climb the mountain, with, or without oxygen, with or without ropes. He did fabricate, prevaricate, manipulate, and obscure data in an attempt to hide this fact. Furthermore, he has been proven to cheat and cut along courses. One must then wonder further if he uses performance-enhancing drugs. Nevertheless, owing to his past duplicity and propensity to fake his achievements, the onus has shifted and now is on him to prove he does not. Certainly, a man with his unique world-class physical capability should be able and eager to make another summit attempt, with proper medical testing and data documentation, to put to rest, this matter once and for all. That his long-time sponsors have dropped him in 2020, speaks volumes. That he has not done this, when all it would have cost him is some time, also speaks volumes.
