Kerr ran mid 8:00.67 for 2 miles in early season 2024. I agree that he possibly can go sub 13 in the 5000m BUT he isn´t at the Norwegian´s level, neither in the 5000m nor the 3000m/ 2miles.

Kerr is a bigger talent than Almgren - who ran a 1:45 800. Kerr has a faster 800 and the 2 mile indoor WR. I think he could easily run 12:50

Kerr couldn't dream of a 13 minute 5k.
Kerr's 8:00.67 2 mile is about a 12:45 on the WA scoring tables. I don't think he can actually run 12:45, we know he will slow down as he gets further from his best event (his 1500m is worth a 12:42 on those tables), but he would have to slow down to an incredible degree to be unable to break 13.

Hocker's 7:23.14 is worth 12:40 and he only managed 12:57. Kerr would be lucky to break 13.

Hocker only ran 12:57 on the illeagal bouncy castle track at Boston. showed his true colours in Stockholm finishing a full half lap behind king Almgren. Hocker is washed

Where they are in the training cycle is key. Hocker was targeting that 3k and went for it. He can go a lot faster in the 5000m at some point. Kerr in 7:25 fitness (8:00 converted down) would have broken 13 by a good bit, and Hocker's 7:23 was definitely worth sub-12:50 for him, but it also was a big effort, and he was spent after that. He gave it 100% and went well beyond what he thought he could do. The 3k was February 8, the 5k February 21. That explains the decline in quality from 7:23 to 12:57.
I don't think it was worth sub 12:50 by any means... just like with Hocker's 3000m indoor (worth more than Kerr's 2 mile btw) he won't be as fast at 5000m comparatively. I think sub 13 minutes is obviously possibly as Kerr won't fall off THAT much, but no way is he a sub 12:50 runner previously or now. If completely focused on it in the future? Maybe but the better money is on no for breaking 12:50 at any point in his career.
also to add Kerr in his 2 mile race had a pacer essentially for 3000m... hocker took on the pace for a good chunk in the second half, so yeah no chance he is even remotely close to sub 12:50
Oli Hoares sh1t. utter melt of an individual, will be shocked if he makes the aussie team for anything. if he does, hes a certainty to flop in his heat
what other sessions has our boy Almgren been doing???
Interesting how so many threads deviate wildly from the original topics. Instead of Andreas pre-race workout, mainly Kerr and Hocker are discussed. Why not create a separate thread for that…
