list goes on and on, but you get the picture, since the students are mostly gone by the time the meet roles around it should be in a big city where we can actually get a crowd and where fans who want to travel to the meet don't have to stay 30+ miles away and pay out of the butt for hotel rooms. Probably don't want it in the south due to weather (heat, humidity, thunderstorms) that time of year, but north, northeast, midwest, Seattle should be fine
Are you nuts? Most of those on the list couldn't host an all-comers meet for the local rec department.
Some might have to borrow another university's track or something, whatever. Point is it should be in a sizeable city.
Towson could be a hit. Mid Atlantic weather in mid June is finicky. Could be decent. Could be mid 90s. High probability it's going to be humid too. No shade for spectators.
Doesn't look like ideal setup for jumps and throws. Do they have multiple ramps for long jump or pole vault?
The fieldhouse has a terrace that is covered for shade.
The four-story, 48,000 square-foot field house provides Towson's student-athletes with an excellent collegiate facility. It includes spacious, modern locker rooms for each of its sports, an impressive athletic training facility, classrooms, conference rooms, an upscale equipment room, an academic resource center, a video-editing room and offices for the coaches. Designed to maximize exterior scenic looks, the field house includes windows that provide a stunning view of the adjacent playing area. A rooftop patio treats guests to a bird's-eye view of the athletic contests. The stadium is lighted for night play. In summer of 2008, Towson University became the first NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) school to install a Daktronics high-definition LED video and scoring system. TigerVision, the state-of-the-art HD video board system was installed in the west end zone of Johnny Unitas® Stadium. The cornerstone of the project is a nearly 45' high by 60' wide structure on the west end of Minnegan Field that consists of an HD LED video display scoreboard, backlit sponsor displays and backlit identification display. Surrounding Minnegan Field at Johnny Unitas® Stadium is an eight-lane (48-inch wide) Olympic caliber BSS 2000 track composed of Martins IS0-2000 Surface. The facility is also equipped with four long/triple jump runways, pole vault, high jump, and steeplechase water jump pits.
I and thousands of others, including coaches and athletes, like Eugene. I challenge all others to offer a better deal to the NCAA. My money is on Oregon with a chance that Mt Sac could host more than any other suggestion. It's either facilities or weather delays but rare to satisfy both for best performances.

Duke held the NCAAs in 90 or so, I was there and it was awesome although I didn't know as poster above noted that stadium has now been condemned.
Duke's stadium wasn't condemned. It was a different stadium named Duke.
Once Duke started placing more emphasis on football when Cutcliffe was coach they upgraded the stadium which included removing the track. They built a new devoted track and field stadium directly behind the football press box on an upper level. It's very close to Cameron Indoor and also the new baseball stadium.
That facility is fine other than it's not suitable to host a major meet. There are a small amount of seats along the upper backstretch. That's about it.
I can see how Wallace Wade Stadium would have been a great setting for the NCAA meet. I had a great time one year jogging around the track in early evening, while in town for Canes vs. Duke football the next day.
While traveling in Minneapolis and Milwaukee in late May and early June this year I was thinking both of them would be ideal for NCAA outdoors if facilities cooperated. In looking at that list of former sites I see that both cities did host circa 1940s, with Minneapolis hosting numerous times.
I watched a soccer game a few weeks ago at TCO Performance Center, which is the Vikings practice facility. That's what caused me to think about hosting the NCAAs. That stadium would be absolutely perfect, if only the NCAA had the foresight to collaborate on a running track, perhaps a removable one.
In it's day, Wallace Wade was a good venue. It used to have "World's Records Set on this Track" painted on the wall. Al Buehler was the head coach at Duke and across town Leroy Walker had built a powerhouse at NCCU. They knew that hosting meets promoted the sport. Wallace Wade hosted PanAm and USA/USSR meets.
TQL Stadium in Cincy would be ideal and there is a track facility right across the street (Willard Stargel Stadium) that could be used for warmups and team camps.

Cincinnati has good airport access but is a horrible place for anything. Hot, humid, and polluted air get trapped in the valley and the city itself is dirty as hell. Yesterday wit the heat index it was 104. Horrible choice.

Except TQL Stadium DOESN'T HAVE A TRACK and isn't designed for a track. On the straights, you'd have to build the track up and over the first (10?) rows of stands You'd need A LOT more room on the curves....
Just overlay a soccer field with a track around it on top of an aerial image of TQL stadium to see how hard it would be to do.
The more I think about a place like Towson, it really could work. If you're looking at the economics alone, it makes sense. Huge population base within a 3-4 hour drive. With that comes a huge mix of high schools and universities, public and private. Could fly into either BWI, Reagan or even Dulles or Philly (both still a shorter drive than Portland to Eugene). Train access is 15 minutes away. Plenty of all levels of hotels in Baltimore and surrounding areas. Plenty of things to do either in Baltimore or DC. I guarantee you're going to get more than the 5,000 or so people a day that were at the just concluded NCAA Champs in Eugene (As I said in a previous thread, they are lying if they said there was a total of almost 36k people there over the 4 days, as Hayward wasn't even close to half full, let alone the 3/4 full that would get 9k a day)
That being said, it must not make financial sense for the university or they'd have bid on it already...unless the leaders just don't even realize they could pull it off (or don't care to).
As a casual fan, i 110% think it needs moved. When it is in Eugene year after year after year- that puts the meet out of reach for most of America and most of the fans… I am a fan out of IL and even though im a fan- traveling to Eugene for a meet would require about a week off for vacation and let’s be real, even most dedicated fans aren’t gonna do that … but now rotate the meet and hold it in the Midwest or an easier travel destination and now suddenly you have more fans attending. By rotating the meet it becomes accessible and interesting to the entire US versus a small portion of it. as others have said, Eugene also has a surplus of meets so the fan base in Eugene is itself priced out and can’t attend every meet. But again, rotate and switch it up and then your fans in other areas of the US can attend. Unfortunately, the ncaa is in it for the money and the move prob won’t happen, which sucks because having it year after year in Eugene is doing nothing for the growth of our sport and not attracting any new fans.
