WSU selling out!!! Here comes University of New Mexico 2.0
The funny thing is that the Head Coach is a hurdles guy, and now he'll sit back and dump a sh^t load of money into Kenyan brokers and buy his way to winning, just like New Mexico.
What if you recruit football and basketball players that could also sprint, jump and throw? Throw back to the Jim Thorpe days, continue onto 13th grade and do track in the spring.
Tell me you don't understand the current state of D1 college football without telling me you don't understand the current state of D1 college football.
It. Is. A. Business.
If you are a football player who shows up on campus thinking you are going to CLASS (let alone practicing for another SPORT) then you won't be on campus very long.
I understand it just fine. It is quickly heading to a system of the haves and have nots. Not there yet because schools like Wasu or Oregon State still believe that they’re the haves though they’re without a conference, lose their coordinators and quarterbacks to Power 4 teams. Why not zag while others zig?
This is due to the break up of the PAC 12. Minimal TV money now. WSU & Oregon State were screwed over.
How is finally getting paid what they are actually worth screwing over WSU and OSU?
WSU being ranked in 7 of the last 10 seasons definitely shows they couldn’t hang with the rest of the P-4. TV numbers are also better than most ACC and Big 12 schools.
They just get 3 Athletes like Henry Rono and Samson Kimombwa An Athlete like Rono in his prime Could win the 5000, 10000 and Steeple And Score 30 points, An Athlete like Kimombwa could get 2nd in the 5000 and 10000 and if he wanted to probaly the Steeple so 24 points = 54 and lets say a Runner who could win the 1500 and get 3rd in the Steeple and 5000 = 22 points so all together 76 Points that should win NCAA Most Years.
Stanford won NCAA’s in 2000 with six distance guys and a pole vaulter scoring. That’s as close as we have it historically.
I saw one Florida school go all-in on women's pole vault at one point. They would have half a dozen or more women pole vaulters practicing after recruiting a bunch of them. Nothing ever came of it, however. They quickly gave that up and are having success a decade later in the men's sprints for the first time in decades. They still have almost zero male distance runners.

Program success is 90% about recruiting better talent that whomever you want to be better than, for all we want to pretend it’s about

You are right...it definitely is a business. I could see some football players running track if and only if the football coach is on board and thinks the focus on sprint/explosiveness training will help improve their football. However, they may only be able to compete in indoor track as most football programs have spring training (hence why many high school senior football recruits graduate early and head to college for spring football).

How is she really "owning" her regret and lack of communication on what happened with the track & field team by talking about it on a podcast that no one will really ever see.
If she really feels that badly on what happened, then make a more formal statement than this. The people most effected probably won't even see this at all.
