The commentators were markedly more quiet anf subdued during the final 800, the women's A race. They had obviously gotten word through their earpieces that the starting blocks had been in the wrong place, and therefore all their race after race raving had been misguided.
This was colossal fail on all levels. Forget about the runners. How could none of the fans, officials or commentators pick up on a gaffe of this magnitude.
Just after the men's A race, but before the slow motion replay, there is a pow wow of 4 people standing in a circle in the middle of the track. It was either all women or mostly women. Runners in the women's A race. I think that's where the clarity began.
To avoid embarrassment the producers focused exclusively on lanes 1 and 2 prior to the women's A race. Otherwise we would have seen all the numbered blocks moved back, and no doubt plenty of discussion among those runners and the official as they were shuffled back.
