Poor job by Teffra. He's not a devastating finisher and he needed to be today.
Murphy just did not have the wheels to get it done despite closing well. He does not like being up front and looked uncomfortable when he found himself there. I'm sure he was looking for someone to blow by and pull the field thru. Never happened and you get a 1100m crawl followed by a mass sprint. Murphy becomes just another kicker off a pace like that. With 100m remaining, I still felt he would get to 5th. Credit to Martin for holding him off.
Sahlman does seem to have that race tactic down as noted exactly how he ran indoors
Consistently awful tactics.
He got into the right spot mid race and then seemingly fell asleep and let 6 guys go by him on the 3rd lap when the pace picked up. The closed pretty well on the last lap but was starting too far back.
Yeah I really don't see the logic in Murphy at least running 63's instead of 73's from the front. Would have made the final easily, and wouldn't have been that taxing.

He's done the same in other races I've seen. Why move up if you're not going to do anything about it? Bounce around a bit, drift to the back, put on the brakes to pass.
Just doesn't make sense. Birnbaum ran it the right way in the second heat if you're going to run from the back. Essentially one move to get into position and then run it in.
