The thing about track is most of the compensation for the pros has always been NIL. Prize money is a small percentage of their earnings.
NIL ≠ Pro Salary
Pro Salary congingent upon running races, time bonuses, place bonuses.
NIL cannot be tied to performance in any way. Those contracts are written only as influencers basically. They get no more money contractually no matter how fast they run
Well said, these knuckleheads act as if these guys had huge monetary awards given to them, then proceed to NCAA. A lot of the time, agents do what is called a group contract, which is a smart way for Europeans and Americans who deal with Africans to scam upcoming athletes. What you see here is agents using college coaches as their puppets, with the idea being to discourage athletes from joining colleges.
So the New Mexico coach goes out and buys a complete Kenyan team and then someone questions whether those high-level Kenyan athletes might be receiving payments outside of the NCAA eligibility process. Really, if you dont' think this could happen you must be living under a rock. And then the New Mexico coach calls Jonathan Gault to proclaim his/their innocence. What would anyone expect him to say? Wouldn't it be great to actually have a coach come on and say-No we got caught we did it. Coaches who recruit Kenyans are just playing with fire.
Per their coach they followed the correct NCAA & US procedures for getting these athletes into their school.
Some of the schools UNM competes against have asked their compliance departments to register a complaint with the league and the NCAA about improprieties surrounding agents (& pro contracts) of these athletes at UNM
The league and he NCAA will determine what if anything they would like to do about it. Could be nothing or could be something.
Jonathan Gault, if you see this, it’s time to start making some calls. You are the man to uncover this.
Gault couldn't even uncover the New Balance Boston group falling apart. It was anonymous posters. Gault only did research after the facts had been exposed.
Once again, anonymous users beat Gault to the story. What does he get paid for?
Only anonymous users would know the details of this situation but now that it’s open it needs a deep dive from a credible journalist, which Jon is.
New Mexico’s response may not have been smart. They’ve now acknowledged that their league and the NCAA are involved. They’ve also acknowledged that what they have deemed “pertinent” was submitted. The problem, and listen to me hear Jon, is what they didn’t submit to the NCAA. The information they had but kept to themselves. And now others have the information through the athletes and the agents. Talk to them and you have your answer, talk to New Mexico and they’ve done nothing wrong.
It’s official: Tomislav Ivisic has been cleared to play.“Hi Illini family, this is Tomislav Ivisic, and I got great news for you,” Ivisic said in a video posted Thursday by Illinois men’s basketball on X. “I got cleared to pl...
“Despite being cleared, Ivisic will lose one year of eligibility, making him a sophomore. He is also required to make a financial repayment as a part of being reinstated in the form of a donation to a charity of his choice.“
So the New Mexico athletes made a financial repayment in order to get their eligibility?

It’s weird how people say a coach is “buying” an athlete or a whole team I guess…
All teams are “buying” athletes. While this is an attempt to discredit, it’s just reality. Scholarships, NIL deals- it all goes in that category.
Isn’t it possible that the athletes are happy there and like their training, so word spreads that it is a good place to run? To talk about human trafficking and abuse in this situation is despicable. (This was from another post)
It’s also possible that Gaussen cares for his athletes while training them well- and is just following the rules outlined by the NCAA. This dog-piling and vilification is disgusting.
Gault, keep digging. If you try hard enough, you will find out these athletes were on pro contracts in Kenya with adidas prior to coming to NM. Reach out to their agent.
+1. Also Gault reach out to the European race directors where these guys competed before they got the NCAA. I am nearly 100 percent certain they accepted prize money and just didn't report it. You guys definitely have the connections and ability to get this done! We support you.
Wtf, man! Oregon does not cheat. You don’t know for a fact. You are just a bitter little dude…probably because your wife cheats on you. I know that for a fact. I used the same source you used.
