Funny how last few years it has been the USA Track and Field NYC Grand Prix and now that it is canceled (along with Bermuda and LA) they just want to take no ownership "we don't organize it..." nice job trying to pass the buck. They CERTAINLY are part of the funding and the support for the sport of Track and Field
"Our domestic calendar is strategically designed with depth and flexibility, ensuring that elite athletes have consistent, high-quality, competitive platforms throughout the season. USATF remains committed to supporting elite athletes by actively securing viable alternatives and will continue working with our partners to maximize opportunities across the US track and field landscape."
I'm starting to think track at the Olympics is going to be a crap show. Hopefully USATF isn't involved in that in any way. They constantly are losing big meets, nickle and diming hosts of USATF championship road races when they do actually happen, haven't put together a schedule for world xc next Jan, etc. Its obvious that Max Siegel's epic salary is hurting the organization. They are destroying the sport in the US so one man can have an epic salary.
Agree USATF is a hot mess, but they aren’t responsible for all these canceled meets, the cause is the people who are trying to run those those events. If they were capable, they would find ways to still make these work, from San Diego earlier this year to New York later this summer. Don’t give them all a free pass.
Max tried to re-coup losses from thw WC2022 Eugene abortion by starting LAGP and NYGP and the OT2024 Eugene got downgraded and reclassified by Hollywood Ad Rate Formulas as a happy show with Snoop Dogg and Terry Crews and that killed Max's org.
That's interesting. I would have assumed it was totally organized by the USATF NYC contingent, as that has been the appearance the past few years. That's a good thing, as they know what they're doing way more than most.
Do they know what they're doing? Because there is going to be no meet this year. Someone messed up epically.
No one shows up to NYC meets (like everywhere else). There’s probably financial loss organizing a meet there.
Max did his best to cut costs at WC22 by making the mara an internal city and state parks course. The Eug PD and Or St Patrol wanted 2x time plus 5 star hotels for the cops. Max got rid of public roads and intersections the police insisted on having a dozen members each taking selfies of each other with their AR-15s and Night Vision AI Google Googles. Bit when coaches saw Max's plan they balked out of the mara. It was the smallest mara in WC history.

I get the part about trying to save costs on staffing for the race, which, on the surface, doesn’t sound like a bad idea. So why did the coaches balk at the idea?
