his most recent youtube video showed him running hill sprints at a training camp that appears to be in the mountains…was that prior to this reported injury??
Norwegian media "VG" Summed up: An Achilles injury makes Jakob Ingebrigtsen's participation in the Bislett Games uncertain. Jakob has postponed his planned training trip. He will most likely have to postpone the season opener to avoid risk.
On the bright side, Jakob’s fanboys now have another lame excuse ready for when he inevitably gets beat in the world championship 1500 again. 😂

Not a fanboy but if he is injured it is a valid reason for not reaching his best shape.
That's a bummer. I was really looking forward to his (planned) season opener.
I can't remember Jakob having many injuries/setbacks throughout the years, so let's hope he does the most reasonable preparations leading up to his season opener (whenever it will be)
He was of course injured during the 2023/2024 winter season (No European XC championships or indoor races that season. Didn't race for eight motnhs (september to may) but ended up with a season opener of 3:45.60 (2nd place) in the Prefontainse Classic mile). He also skipped the 2021 Bislett Games due to a groin injury (if I remember correctly), and he won Olympic gold later that season. So let's hope he'll be ready and fit whenever he starts this season.
(Am I forgetting any other inuries/setbacks? (Not counting fever/throat infection/covid etc.) )
Good summary. These more recent injuries are part of a pattern that started in Budapest 2023 where Kerr beats Jakob in the championship 1500, then Jakob pushes himself too much in training while obsessing about Kerr, then Kerr beats him again and the cycle repeats. The loss-overtrain-injury cycle will continue until 2030, when Jakob will finally give up on the 1500.
Terrible news. The sport is better when Jakob is at his best. Worried for Jakob. An Achilles injury can be an existential threat to his career, especially in the 1500. He needs to shut things down for as long as needed to get healthy, really healthy.

Don't forget Jakob firing his father as his coach. Gjert was always the sage one who reined in Jakob and his brothers from their reckless impulses. He kept them from overtraining. Without Gjert's careful guidance, these injuries will be more common.
Let the record show that Jakob has never won an outdoor global championship 1500 without his father coaching him.
might not kill his peak for the season, but forget a summer of chasing records.
Damn.
I wouldn't write off his ability to chase records so easily based on this news. To me, it sounds like a niggle he wants to get right before committing to another big quality training block. Delaying the start of the training block might mean missing Bislett. Probably not a major setback in the grand scheme of the season. All of these top athletes are going to deal with something this seasons...it's a long one!
The 5000m was looking likely at Bislett, but there is still an opportunity at Monaco for this.
I think Prefontaine is an issue for Monaco.
maybe not though. it's just a lot of travel in a short period

Gjert didn't save the brothers from injury. Quite the opposite.
I know guys that had Achilles issues end their running careers. Very serious issue due, I am told, to the fact that there is little blood flow to the tendon. May put an end to an incredible career. Still only 24 yrs old. So much still to do. Good wishes to Jakob Ingebrigsten.
