I would love to see her competing in the 5000 or 10000m at U.S. Trials and not the 1500m. Hopefully if she has those time qualifiers then she is attempting to stay as fresh and work on her speed until U.S. Trial and hopefully Worlds. I always thought her and Monson both have the ability to run sub 14:15 and sub 30 minutes in the 5/10000m.
5/10000m is only half a millimeter. Breaking 30 minutes for half a millimeter should be easy for a pro runner.
This is a terrible track & field meet.
Enough of the team banquet. Let's get on with Nandro parade.
Race about to start
Galvydyte ftw.
Karissa's PR is 4:00.02 - does she finally get under 4?
Houlihan wins in the last 20 meters. Boxed in for about 380.
Woohoo! Long live Queen Shelby!!
🥳 🎉 👸 🏃♀️ 🏆
And then a huge last lap for Birnbaum.
45.48, 57.70, 58.96, 54.88 for 3:37.02

Looked smooth and easy. Getting started late from injury, I could see him running 3:32/3 this summer.
That's awesome!
Nice last lap in 54.8. I hope he shoots to the top. And where is Rheinhardt Harrison? The dude almost never competes; he's certainly no alpha dog. 4:01 as a HS sophomore - the record-holder for that class - 3:59 as a senior...and he just never wants to go head-to-head with people. Was like that in high school, never going up against the nation's best. I saw a lot of talent when he was younger, but you can't be great without toughness and competitiveness. Harrison ain't got it! So he's sleep-walking through college, basically achieving nothing. Unfortunately, he's with a coach (Schumacher) who also isn't much into competing and who runs his guys into the ground. BAD COMBINATION! And what's up with Larry Josh Edwards and Connor Burns? Two more guys who did great in high school but then got lost in Schumacher-ville.

This guy is a pro rage baiter or he is a little out of the loop of how these guys have been performing recently/ health issues (not injuries).

True, Schweizer beat Houlihan in the road mile on 4/22, but Houlihan then beat Schweizer by ~10 yards in a track mile on 4/26. I definitely favor Houlihan in this 1500.
It’s interesting that Schweizer’s first 3 races of the year are mile-mile-1500. Is she actually considering focusing on the 1500 this year (?) after her shockingly good 5th Avenue Mile last year?—or is it merely part of a 5k/10k plan.
No.
Karissa has the Tokyo WC 5000 Q from her 14:36.88 in Brussels last September. Does not have the 10,000 Q but currently ranks 10th globally (2nd US to Kelati) so likely only needs top-3 @ USAs on 7/31 to book Tokyo.
Had a winter injury -- following her first full autumn of training in four years -- so is in a heavy "catch up" training cycle. In fact, Karissa mentioned on her IG account she was originally not intending to race the Twilight but decided to for the training benefits.
Shelby, on the other hand, was planning to chase her 14:50 Tokyo 5000 Q but switched to the 1500 because lack of entrants resulted in the women's 5000 being cancelled.
Looking ahead, several of Karissa's Swoosh TC teammates are entered in Sound Running's Track Fest on 5/24 so would not be surprised to see her jump into the 1500 or 5000 (no 10,000 at this meet) as another fitness test. However, fully expect Karissa to compete @ Portland Track Festival on 6/14-15 as the meet returns to the "electric forest" @ L&C College while the pro circuit will be full on by then.
Since Shelby had to change plans at the last moment re: Oregon Twilight, she too may be a late Track Fest 5000 entrant. If not, then certainly PTC for her ongoing WC Q chase.

Justyn Knight with his first race result since 2021? 3:42 1500 out of heat 2. Listed as a member of swoosh tc.
