Well I said I would do it and here it is. I did my best to find all of the top recruits for each NESCAC team coming into the 2025 season. I’m sure I missed some people, this is just fun speculation over the summer. We’ll find out how everything settles once the season starts. At the end of the list is my personal take on how these recruits could shake things up.
Tufts:
(Benjamin Hester: 4:22 1600, 9:19 3200, 16:13 5000.) (Christopher Hovet: 15:52 5000.) (Joey Papanicholas: 4:19 1600, 9:28 3200, 16:18 5000.) (Will Olsen: 9:29 2 mile, 15:39 5000)
Mystery 9:03 guy?? Couldn’t find him
Williams:
(Drew Kolenski: 4:18 1600, 9:20 3200, 16:01 5000.) (Gavin Engtrakul: 4:20 1600, 15:39 5000.) (Liam O’connor: 4:17 1600, 9:09 2 mile, 14:25 3 mile.) (TJ Zwall: 4:11 mile, 9:05 3200, 15:28 5000)
Amherst:
(Will Reeves: 4:12 1600, 9:22 3200, 15:31 5000.) (Carter Bengtson: 8:26 3000, 15:06 5000.) (Caleb Barns: 4:22 mile, 9:18 2 mile, 15:16 5000.) (Will Peterson: 4:18 1600, 15:47 5000)

Middlebury:
(Ian Larkin: 4:17 1600, 15:24 5000.) (Ethan Sholk: 4:16 mile, 9:09 2 mile, 15:00 5000.) (Sullivan Dunn: 9:20 3200, 15:43 5000.) (Nathan Szubin: 9:42 3200, 16:00 5000.) (Nate Johnson: 4:12 mile, 9:25 2 mile, 15:42 5000.) (Kieran McBride: 4:22 1600, 9:28 steeple, 15:52 5000)
Colby:
(Curtis Leachman: 9:24 3200, 15:18 5000.) (Ryan Todisco: 9:22 2 mile, 15:46 5000.) (James Gallaudet: 9:42 2 mile, 16:14 5000)
Colby is pretty low-key, it was difficult to find anyone committed on social media or milesplit
Bowdoin:
Couldn’t find a single thing anywhere
Bates:
(Everett Shaw: 4:25 mile, 9:32 steeple, 15:47 5000.) (Carsten Lyons: 4:25 mile, 16:20 5000.) (Jack Overbay: 4:26 1600, 15:52 5000.) (Noah Aldana: 9:35 3200, 15:47 5000)

Couldn’t find a thing

(Tristen McDonough: 15:50 5000.) (Emmitt Wilson: 15:35 3 mile)

(Evan Small: 9:35 3200, 16:12 5000.) (Xavier Ohl: 1:55 800.) (Theo Kessler: 15:53 5000)
Basically, the class of 2029 recruiting class follows the same format as previous years. Williams, Amherst, and Middlebury have all picked up some studs. If I had to take a stab at it, the rookie of the year will probably come from one of those three teams. Tufts also has a solid recruiting class. Lastly, Wesleyan and Colby have much deeper recruits than previous years as well.
Team Analysis
Tufts is not going to need to rely on their recruits at all. Maybe the mystery 9:03 guy makes an impact, but they’re already in a great spot with depth.
Williams is probably not going to have to rely too much on their recruits, but they must certainly be excited about how fast some of these guys are.
Predicting Amherst’s top 7 by cross nationals is an impossible task given how much they mix it up and who performs on the day. I wouldn’t be surprised if multiple of these 2029 guys are on their varsity come November. They’ve also got some serious talent coming in.
Wesleyan’s top 5 is probably pretty locked, but I could see one or two of their recruits finding their way into the varsity roster. Wesleyan does have a history of one freshman becoming a huge contributor, i.e. Calhoun, Mahoney, and Cote.
Well I said Middlebury recruits well back in May and I wasn’t wrong. Sholk and Johnson will likely really help Midd’s depth problem. This class is absolutely huge for them.
Colby also has a shockingly good recruiting class for their performance last year. They are still in the process of rebuilding, but their recruits could help make an immediate impact and help distance the mules from the bottom half of the NESCAC.
No idea about Bowdoin.
Bates is probably not going to have to rely on their recruiting class for their varsity roster.
The battle between Hamilton, Conn, and Trinity will likely be decided by how strong each recruit ends up in November.
How does this shake things up?
I’m bumping Middlebury up into the tier 2 teams with Amherst and Wesleyan. Grabbing two stud recruits is huge when the Panther’s biggest problem has consistently been depth. I think Colby also leapfrogs Bowdoin and closes the distance on Bates.
