I think a lot of this regret is seeing how the event has gone backwards. In 2017, it looked like Coleman would go on to get faster and dominate the 100m. But now, anyone running 9.8-9.9 can realistically dream of a medal, maybe even gold. I could have seen Bolt getting back to 9.8 shape and being in medal contention. A torn hamstring isn't career ending by any means.
Nah he probably wouldn't have gotten a medal in 2019. Especially not in the 100. By 2021 he would have struggled to make a final.
You never know. The 2017 season started after a prolonged training break. If he gets a year of consistent practice he probably would be in sub 9.8 shape. Of course he was very injury prone. The build-up to Rio included a two month training break and he still managed to win with 3 months of training after the injury.
Bolt was slowing down those last couple seasons and he knew it.
Thinking he did it right and at the right time.
It was well known that he didn't like to train (although who real does) and his coaches thought he could have run faster in his prime had he put more into his workouts. As he got older, he needed to put more work into preparing for each season and he simply didn't want to anymore. I would have liked to see him run the 200 exclusively for another few years. Although watching him do the long jump or attempt to throw the javelin would have been fun, both would have required energy and effort to learn properly and he just wasn't interested in doing that. He went out at the right time for him.

Good point. I think another part of it could be seeing the success that Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, his countrywoman who is the same age as him, has had since he retired. She’s won 4 golds since then and ran her PBs in 2021.
He was already fading in 2017 and didn't win the world title. Four more years to 2021 he probably wouldn't have medaled, might not have even been a qualifier for finals. But I guess he probably would have won a medal on the 4x100.
Back in the day I was the mod at a place called SUB10, yep, sprinting was the king.
That was back in my.....Brutal....days.
I met a lot of Jamaicans there, which got another site going just about Caribbean sprinting.
A lot of these guys were personal friends of Bolt and Yohan Blake, All of these guys sang the same song......Bolt is not cool with PED's and cheaters and didn't care much for Blake because of it.
Why on earth would Usain Bolt need PED'S, well?
I go with what those who actually know him have said,
Old image but it perfectly encapsulates it. You think Bolt is head and shoulders above the field that's all doping and he's the only one who's clean? Ludicrous. Just like El G
Bolt started out running the 400, but he didn't like the pain. He has talked about actually hiding at some meet to get out of it.. So.....here comes the 200m, obviously too tall for the 100m.
He spent years as a 200m cat only, so by the time he FINALLY did come to the 100m he had a whole other level of "speed endurance" he did't decellerate like a normal 100m cat is suppose to, he could sustain his topend longer, which is the 100m. Now add a 6-5 stride, yep.......unique.
I seriously doubt any of us here will see his 9.58 go down. And when it finally is broken it will come from a similiar type athlete, a guy capable of splitting 44 in a 4x4 and blazing a sub 19.50.

Dude, so his buddies were lying, we talked by e-mail, trust me Bolt hates PED talk and those who cheat, what about that don't you get?

But I think part of his regret is that he doesn't know if 2017 was just a blip or part of an inexorable decline. He was at the top for so long and never really experienced a serious down year. You see this with some footballers, for example, Virgil van Dijk looked absolutely washed a couple of seasons ago but now, at the age of 34, he's just had one of his best seasons ever. It would have been nice to have the chance to see if Bolt was really done. Mo Farah had the same thoughts and it turned out that he was washed up, but at least he knew, he wasn't left with any questions about whether he could still cut it.
An admirable mindset that we don't see enough of in Track & Field is...
I'll continue on the national team until the younger ones overtake me, that way they'll know the place on the team is deserved, but if I quit before my time and hand it to them for free there will always be doubt in their minds if they really are good enough, that will be detrimental to their psyche, and if they can't overtake me then they don't deserve the spot in the national team anyway.
Table tennis legend Jörgen Persson (World Champ 1991 in the Men's single, runner up in 1989, Four times Team World Champion and 7 Olympics (1988-2012) to his name (twice 4th) born 1965 continued this way until he was played off before the Rio Olympics at age almost 51.
He's now National Team Coach and has ushered in a second Swedish golden ear of table tennis with so far one European Team Champs title and two men's World Champ finalists.
So yes, I think it's sad to see the likes of Bolt and Farah quit before their time - Centrowitz and Kipchoge are much better role models in this sphere.

Lance Armstrong hated peds. Said it all the time when he was out busting his but on the bike. What part of that don’t you get?

So because a bike rider ,,,,,,hahahaha~~~~~~~~~~~
Dude, I have personally talked to both Ato Boldon (on his site) and his buddy Maurice Greene about the PED thing both echoed what all those Jamaicans said, Bolt isn't into PEDS and doesn't care for those who are.
Believe what ya want, but since you obviously know nothing about this stuff, hey.\~~~~
So I;m over at AtoBoldon.com talking about Les Laing (way back when Jamaican sprinter) so here come all these Jamaicans.......who? They coudn't believe some yank could know more about Jamaican sprinting than they did. One thing led to the next, I got in tight with those guys.
Invited them over to SUB10, good times had by all.
Whole other level of sprint talk than we find here.

Paula Radcliffe held up a sign saying 'EPO cheats out'.
He should have taken a good break for 1.5 years with lots of collagen, intermittent fasting, red light therapy, activegin, PRPjections, and fibroblast stimulants. Also, lose some muscle. Bring down the inflammation and metabolic rate for a while.
Then he could come back and hammer it again for another couple of seasons.
Antiaging and advanced recovery protocol were still not yet mainstream enough in 2017. I imagine that Bolt didn't hear enough good news about this stuff back then, but since, we've seen SAFP, Felix, Houlihan, Kipyegon, Kipchoge, Bekele, and numerous other athletes competing and returning or competing at even older than 30.

What a stupid take. You think if an Olympic champion is doping they would tell their buddies about it??
