Quite frankly, this is one of the weirdest things I've ever seen.
From an internal management perspective, the vibe of this "emergency non-emergency" meeting is just... odd.
But above all else, to post this to your Youtube channel? Am I missing something? Do people actually give an F about the state of affairs with this dudes' "team"? (Not the Brooks Beasts, his personal "staff")?

I agree with almost everything you're saying. What is the real need for this meeting - to make himself feel better about the state of his affairs? But especially to then make it public - some kind of odd sympathy casting? You know "hey everyone this is what I'm up against and why I gave up and barely broke 1.51 in a recent pro 800m race?"

I'd love to explain it but I can't. I think "Josh Kerr the brand" is this massive and wildly inflated figment of his own imagination.

Josh is casually talking with his friends about the weekend. These people are also a part of his team… “chef, videographer, manager, etc”. They directly say they can’t post content from the race/event for 7 days so they are recording this video just to have something out in the meantime.

For whatever reason, people like watching the normal, mundane aspects of people’s lives. It might not be your cup of tea.. it’s not mine either.. but billions of other people watch YouTube.
There’s no “emergency” or excuses or whatever. Josh’s fitness wasn’t that great, and he got beat. That’s what he acknowledges and that’s just how it is. There’s not much more to say about it, and he doesn’t… other than he’s optimistic about the future and obviously believes he’ll be better. Seems like a very normal perspective from an elite athlete that has baseline confidence and isn’t rocked from one poor performance.
Anyways, life is interesting. People have such different perspectives when observing the exact same thing and sometimes I find that frustrating but it’s also really fascinating.

*insert obligatory “this is a wendy’s sir” line here*

It was yet another Kerr Cringeathon.

Thank god there's a wailing baby there - to break up some of the tension.

I've had a few work / office meetings like this. If an earthquake caused the ground to open up before me, I'd dive in.

I really cannot decide which is worse: That "resigning" vid or this.

At least the former had that 8k, which I found interesting.

In this video I keep waiting for one of the poor, unfortunate participants to stand up and shout "Dude, why can't we just have some fun, ffs?"

If The Office ever restarts, Kerr has provided great material.

In fact, post running, he could be the star. A good director can say "Just be yourself."

Kerr's "team" around the table is a freaking joke. Incompetent people that he can talk down to. The "asst" coach of the team is a loser who doesn't know anything about running. His "chef" is the asst coaches wife. The new video dude is like a groupie. And the new guy sitting next to Kerr was on the Lobo team at one point but washed out. This is not a "professional" group which is just about what Brooks Beast have always been.

I think at this point it's also safe to say that Josh maybe needs to start focussing back on running and on not finishing 7th out of 8th in his "short distance" Grand Slam Track group that he is supposed to be the marquee signing and face of.

In fact, he was one of the entire leagues "big name, million dollar" signings, and easily performed the worst of that initial "hype" group that Johnson signed. Back to basics there buddy.

But he is clearly not comfortable in these social media vids.
I think I recognize a small part of my own personality in him: Shy/introvert, trying (too) hard to be outside the box.
I wish he would just sit for Q+A vice "Here Is My Staff And I Am The Big Boss" type stuff.

That's actually a very good question.

At the very highest levels, surely there's a lot of psychology at play. I think we know what Jingy thinks. "Yeah but Kerr keeps beating him" etc etc. But I think weaknesses / vulnerabilities can be exposed and taken advantage of when certain (ie badly made) media is posted.

It wasn't nearly as bad as I expected, based on the comments here.

The opening was stiff and awful. That's the problem. First impression. The videographer should have understood to cut out the opening minutes. Once they were relaxed and bouncing from topic to topic it was okay, other than this Kerr team is not nearly as experienced and formidable as my impression from all the hype last year.

The idea to go around the table and introduce everybody early simply didn't work. I thought Kerr was fine throughout. But he was seldom speaking during those early awkward minutes. If the idea was to allow the audience to get a feel for everybody and their role, they should have eased into that during the second half of the video, once they were all more relaxed after covering a variety of topics.

I haven't been a Kerr fan. I still won't root for him but this gives me a more positive impression. It kind of reminds me of when I was mid to late 20s new to Las Vegas and a bunch of us of similar age were pooling ideas and trying to figure out what the heck we had stepped into.
