I can't imagine running a marathon hungover. It would be horrendous. It's unseasonably hot here as well.
Depends on her state of 'hungover'. I had plenty of long runs in college of 15-20 miles and would be able to go quite fast and feel pretty good after a night out. You're all carbed up, and the sleep the night before doesn't really matter. But if she was throwing up after drinking too much she wouldn't have any fuel and the run would go terribly. I'll wager she was fine, kept it all down, and was full of calories for the race.
I absolutely don’t understand the point of publicizing being hungover as if that is a good or bragworthy thing. It’s just stupid. The fact that she’s going to get married in a month seems altogether irrelevant to put in the headline.
Being a drunk is unattractive, but this is a cute funny story. In the UK more so than the US it's very much a thing to get hammered at your hen night. It doesn't mean she's an alcoholic.
On a side note I ran one of my best half marathons ever after drinking too much champagne the night before. Maybe it would have been a PR if I'd stayed sober.
That's what happens when there's no pressure. If she came in 7th, 10th, 20th, whatever, she would have just blamed the nights activities. Can she do a sub 2:30? That's what I wanna know!
My best hangover race was a 71 min half on a course with almost 1000 ft elevation change after 8 or 9 craft beers. I thought it was pretty solid, about 6 minutes off my PR which was on a flat course. Young people can handle hangovers well.
I'll never understand why stories like this are supposed to be cool. One of the best things about being around distance runners is that they are less likely to be degenerate losers.
