I just got cut because of new roster limits

It only took 10:25 last year to qualify in the steeple so you didn't clarify your performance. I believe it's like anything else, the faster you ran the more options you will have. I would not recruit someone that ran 10:25 but would for someone who ran 10:00. I have worked at both mid-major levels and P4 levels and you will have more options at a non-P4 school. Also, as much as I like my school and team and wanted to stay, maybe being forced to go somewhere else is a blessing in disguise.

My distance coach and the head track coach haven’t been getting along very well. Distance is starting to become slowly more and more deprioritized (our schedule of meets doesn’t make much sense for distance, last year my distance coach had to recruit with almost zero scholarship, etc). And now with the new roster limits, athletes in the track head coach’s event group are getting priority for roster spots (even if they aren’t even close to contributing to the team score at conference).

It might be nice to try to find a school that better prioritizes distance.

Sounds like a frustrating situation overall. Yeah, I'd say you have nothing to lose and everything to gain by looking in the portal. My advice would be to stay open to different schools and talk to a lot of coaches to find the best fit. There will be something as long as you stay open-minded.

What is the expectation for when these anticipated roster limits and kids getting cut will hit en masse?

To the OP, I will say to hit the portal. I'm vaguely aware of a true freshman that's sub 18 and sub 36:30 that was worried she'd get no interest, but said she received plenty. I don't know how that compares to you or what her offers were, but she expressed how nice it was to hear the phone ring based on her worries.

Her money grubbing institution provided her with funds that allowed her to complete her bachelors degree. I'm sure there are plenty of good memories and positive people in the journey.

Moving on to grad school provides a healthy and normal place to take a break and make a move. In fact it's such a good idea that it's required by the Ivy league. Remember also she only has indoor and outdoor eligibility for track.

Rules change this year. It should make you more attractive because scholarships and roster spots are separate.

How fast are you, roughly?

Women go from 18 scholarships for track/XC to 17 for XC and 45 for track.

I am confused by the increase in scholarships but the decrease in roster spots? How does this work?

obviously don’t know your details but I would not overlook Division 2 schools.

-Possibly free or very cheap grad school

-Chance to compete at nationals/ higher level than where you are at D1

-Good enough facilities/funding at many of the good ones

At least do yourself a favor and look at the outdoor/indoor lists from this year and last, and check out a few teams

A number of D2 schools are highly rated in various professions. Unless you are a potential world-beater there is little to no money in track and field so better to come away with a degree which will position you professionally.

Many programs, myself included, would love to have a runner like yourself. Don’t get discouraged. Business programs for grad school are often much easier to get into for grad school. Many even have mid-year starts.

Both are happening. Football drops from 125 spots to 105 while increasing scholarships from 85 to 105.
