Toke all you like. No one will stop you. You won. The pursuit of never-ending distraction and pleasure is seen by most Americans as the essence of liberty. They’re wrong of course and we’ll pay a dreadful price for it. Not just marijuana, but pick any vice that is considered acceptable, even fashionable, to indulge. Just understand that marijuana, like any other drug pursued for pleasure has consequences, and the pro marijuana lobby lied about them.
Wow that's rich coming from a guy with seemingly endless time to post on Letsrun!
There is no such thing as "mental" addiction. Real addiction has real withdrawal symptoms, like alcohol, heroin or nicotine.
Daily alcohol use can (depends on how much) but marijuana use doesn't. It's habit forming, for sure, but that's different. Any habit, good or bad, can become routine and hard to break. But that's not addiction.
Who wants it to be "addiction?" The cults like AA and NA who trick people into lifetime membership as "powerless" addicts, and expanded into other "anonymous" fields about ordinary bad habits. There's money being made in all of it.
When I was around 20 I smoked 3-4 times per week, often with the only friend I had while living in a different country. While I enjoyed being high, it stopped being fun at some point. Really I just didn’t want to be high so often, so I stopped for a couple of years. Fortunately for me it never got in the way of responsibilities (school, etc). More than 10 years later, I still enjoy consuming no more than twice per week. And I think you‘re right, cannabis is more a habit than a physical addiction.

“Mental addiction” is physical addiction (unless you think you can function without your brain). Weed rewires your brain chemistry due to deadening your cannabinoid receptors (it’s why daily users are miserable depressed people when they aren’t high, as they have killed their natural rewards system, which is also why they have much higher suicide rates). It’s a real issue (especially with the super potent weed they sell today, not the low potency stuff your grandparents smoked in the sixties). Just like any recreational drug, weed has negative side effects, is addictive and can require help to break the habit.
Its a little vacation from reality without the expense or hangover. Precaution is advised but not threatened. Effects may vary, illusions will probably follow, but it is a time and space where/when one of the experiences can be a freeing up from anxiety about such things. Hence the "vaca" part. Music is known to be a nice experience --not just accompaniment--with it!
Caffeine is also addictive. No one seems to care about that for some reason though.
If three people in my neighborhood had to be addicted to either alcohol or marijuana I’m choosing marijuana every time over 3 alcoholics.
Im a both/ander! Of course I believe excess in either is bad. More bad in alcohol I think. I would not advise excess in...either. But In marijuana veritas and alcohol libre. Nice poison? Quien Sabe? But you got a better poison?!
Surely addictive. I lost my only brother to pot. He was brilliant before he fried his brain. I miss him every day.
Lost friends to alcohol too.
I live in terrible pain. Having a drink REALLY helps. Having a second or third makes no additional difference though so you need to manage your consumption wisely.
Ban marijuana and arrest anyone in possession of it and death penalty for dealers. Something horribly wrong in a country where the powers that be want you stoned on weed all the time.
Again, we all know alcohol can be deadly. No one is denying that. I am saying that marijuana is clearly addictive, and some don’t want to admit it because they think it’s a civil right to get wasted
Wasted? You must be thinking of some other drug. I've smoked a lot of weed and I can't say I've ever been wasted. One time many years ago I got stoned and ate a tub of strawberry ice cream and threw up. And I think I started crying too. It was pretty sad. But I threw up from eating all the ice cream, it wasn't the weed per se. I've had much worse things happen with alcohol. I've broken bones and ruined relationships while drunk.
You can say whatever. I like my weed and I'm gonna smoke it.
You have substance problems. I hope you get it under control by the time you graduate

Unfortunately, weed is now an ingrained part of our culture. It will harm US productivity, but at least it will be taxed. It will widen the divide between the haves and have nots as non-users excel while user losers fall behind.

That was 30 years ago you f*cling idiot. After that I didn't smoke weed for about 20 years. I'm less addicted to pot than you are to your huge shoes that you're crippled without so take that smug attitude and shove it up your a$$.

Even though what you’re posting is from a blog named Addiction Policy” it does not state that marijuana is addicting. If you can point out where it states that, you get a Scooby snack.
In the meantime, learn to read critically.
It has been proven to be addictive by every major clinic. It is called cannabis use disorder.
Every major clinic -- all funded by Big Pharma which wants you using their far more dangerous mood drugs instead of relatively harmless weed
Weed is the devil's cabbage. It is a terrible scourge on our communities and everyone should stay as far away from it is possible. With more legalization, more people will slide into a terrible weed addiction. There's already a growing sub-class of citizenry who is completely unemployable due to weed addiction -- they're lazy, late, no shows, very unproductive. Frankly, I'd rather hire someone who was high on goofballs or yellowjackets -- at least they're productive!
Pot is awesome. Here is a suggestion. Drop half a gummy right before going on a 45min mountain run.
Hit the other half or take a full when you get back and start cooking. Best meal you’ll ever have!!!!
But as a casual user I can see wanting to do it more and more often. The feeling is great that is why it exists. But like all things you have to have a bit of control. Time and place.
Also, get drunk after 30-35 like drunk drunk. Monitor those side effects.
Then get stoned, no hang over, no sickness, hardly any negatives the next day.
