Say you need to take some time off due to injury or illness mid season. When would you start to reevaluate and readjust your goals?
You see it all the time in highschool during spring breaks. Usually students who took the full week including both weekends off of running lost fintness. But even if they ran just one weekend during those 9 days, it would pretty much mean they had little decline. In my experience, this is my progression
up to 5 days no decline
6-7 days - very small declines might be noticed at race effort, but unlikely to notice it during even a light workout or long run
9-10 days - quite noticeable fitness starts to be lost for me. This is where I start feeling less fit even during moderate or long easy runs. It's still a minor decline, but definitely noticeable.
At about 2 weeks the lost fitness is substantial and I even start noticing it on easy runs
