I don't want kids, everyone else go for it. I live an unconventional life and I love it. Freedom. Nobody, nobody tells me what to do. Have a roster, 3 strong at the moment and 1 in the talking stage. Getting it all the time. No stress. Courts biased. I live in a rich area, lots of divorced women here living it up which is strange because most have crappy jobs or no job. Oh yeah, ex-hubby is paying for her new life. That new life includes riding the carousel, shopping, and vacations with the girls. Bad mouthing dad in front of the kids is a bonus. Be careful. Spoiler - Your kids aren't looking after you when you get older. I would get long term health insurance tomorrow, if you have to go in assisted living it's a fortune per month.
What is it with right wing weirdos pretending to have a lot of women falling over them?
It's sad enough that Steve the Addict is doing an Andrew Tate cosplay, but you're just trying to be Steve the Addict, which is tragic.
Exactly. Honestly I couldn't even finish reading his post - that bad.
JD Vance says you need to have them, and I quote (20221):
“We owe something to our country. We owe something to our future. The best way to invest in it is to ensure the next generation actually exists. I think we have to go to war against the anti-child ideology that exists in our country.”
Probably be some mandates or higher taxes for those who refuse to listen, coming from the govt. that makes you afraid just to read the latest news.
You sound like a dejected fear mongering liberal. You can always just move. No? Then stop whining and making up stuff to make you feel safe. Libs are in meltdown on every single thread;)!
By the time you graduate college, you only have 50ish years of good health left if you take care of yourself. That may sound like a lot to some of you younger folks, but during those years, a third of your day will be spent sleeping, another third of your day will be spent working, and most of the remaining third will be spent on commuting, chores, grocery shopping, home maintenance, and the like.
That leaves you with precious little time to do the things you really enjoy, and there are literally thousands of fun hobbies and activities out there. You can casually dabble in a tiny fraction of them, and before you know it, all your free time in the week is gone, and you have house work and paid work that needs to get done. Blink an eye, and the year is gone. Blink a few more times, and you're an old retired person with more time but no energy to climb that mountain, surf that wave, or backpack around that quaint faraway region of the world that you've always wanted to immerse yourself in but never had the vacation time for.
Blink once more, and you're now on your deathbed wishing you ran that ultramarathon or took that motorcycle or RV trip across the country. Or maybe you're a homebody who aspired to compose a one-hit wonder or write the next Great American Novel. Either way, your life is over, and you'll never have the chance again.
With that said, why the hell would you want to spend your very limited time on Earth following the conventional lifescript of marriage, McMansions, a 5-decade career, and 2-3 kids? F*** that, I'm retiring before 50 and will engage in as much of my hobbies as I can, while I still can.
I don't care what religion my countrymen belong to, but even if I did, a far more effective and desirable solution would be to ban migration from Muslim-majority countries.
Couldn’t disagree more. Kids are awesome. You have to work and do chores and other boring stuff anyway. Having kids gives it meaning. You’re not just doing it, you’re doing it for them.
And you still can do your “hobbies and interests.” I think my spouse and I have actually accomplished more in terms of personal projects since we had our first kid. It just forced us to realize the value of time and spend it wisely (same goes for money too). I mean, you could of course still waste your free time with kids, but that’s up to you, as it is without kids. It took us a while to figure it out with schedules and practical stuff, but we got there.
Kids are great. We love ours and want more. If you’re married or contemplating marriage, don’t let fear get in the way. The window of time to conceive is not short, but not forever either.
You don’t even have to look at JD Vance. What about Kieran Culkin’s speech at the Oscars?
Regarding your first question, it was because of pressure from friends, family, and society. Back then, you were seen as a weirdo and ostracized if you didn't have any kids. This is still true in many parts of rural America and in many developing countries.
Regarding your second question, it's because of a lack of birth control, wanting to get welfare benefits, or needing cheap farm labor.

Remember, YOU brought up politics, not me
I don't think you get it. It's your sht for brains VP who made this political. Childless couples were just living their lives, following their legal rights to choose for themselves, and he declares war on them and their choice (his words - "war").
"Childless Cat Ladies" - sound familiar.
The party of divisiveness. The party that declares war on some of it's own citizens -"The Enemies Within".
So yeah, life gets harder and time becomes more scarce, but having kids unlocks an emotion stronger and more powerful than anything you will ever experience otherwise. If you don’t have kids, you’re missing in something absolutely incredible.

It is somewhat ironic and paradoxical to wax poetic about the freedom you can have by being kid-free when the only reason you have said freedom is because your parents decided to have a kid. What if you want to give someone else like you the means and choice to have a fun, fulfilled life?
Without people having kids, youth participation in everything will decline, your cool hobbies will crumble, young people will agonize under the yoke of taking care of the old, and life will be worse for everybody. So don’t just act like it’s obvious that everybody should go kidless

It's a figure of speech lol it isn't that serious. Nobody's gonna kill you if you choose to not have kids

You seem really upset by something someone posted, why?
Take a pill. This is a forum, less than 1% of people on here are known. We are anonymous posters, both you, me and everyone on this thread.
If you are pissed about the New President and VP and don't like them cleaning up the Billions of wasted tax dollars and greased palms, it's really simple---->move.
You aren't changing anything, so why get so upset?

I mean, he’s right in the sense that if people don’t have kids (and don’t raise them responsibly) then we don’t have a country anymore. I guess the alternative answer is just importing millions of immigrants, but that’s a dark road that we shouldn’t have to take.
Of course people should have the right to plan how many to have based on personal circumstances, finances, etc. But there should be a good premium on having them.

If people don't have kids and if we don't import millions of immigrants, we will have less crowds and traffic, more natural resources, lower rates of violent crime and unemployment, lower housing costs, and more motivation to cure diseases and aging so that the elderly can continue working and contributing to society.
That would be a country and future that I'd love to live in and be a part of.
