anyone soundly rejected by these people, i would immediately assume that they were likely of high moral standard.
I see Coe as a do gooder for his sport, a jock that is not an intellectual, but has artistic talent and ruthlessness which applies to politics, where he's quite functional in dealing with this often dodgy, corrupt, bureaucratic group.
its like playing with pigs in the mud. he takes off his suit jacket, plays with them, has a shower, and goes home to listen to jazz piano.
the point is Coe has enough good heart and dodgy corruption in him to be the perfect man for the job.
I might do the same if I were him, except I played with pigs before and don't like the stink.
