And you have nothing of interest to say either. Maybe if one of the athletes run an amazing time you get the chance to call him a doper. One can always hope!

He tried his best Jakob impersonation getting out basically in last place, then trying to wind the race up progressively faster in the final 1000m. Problem was he couldn't really do it.
They were 64, 61, then a 58 for 3.03 something at 1200m. I got 55.6 for the last lap for Tanner who was absolutely flat to the boards in the straight and held a stride lead until the final 20m. To be honest I thought Ruthe had beaten him even though they were given the same time.
It's not a great performance from Tanner. Sam Ruthe is obviously an awesome talent, but he is still only a 3.41/7.56 runner and 15 years old. Really at the level Sam Tanner wants to be at he should be able to close in under 54 seconds for that final lap and put away a very good junior like Ruthe. Strange one - wonder if he was sick/slightly hurt?

I concur. I really like Tanner he is a lovely guy but I am wondering if he is going to get back into 3.31 form again. Even if he does 3.31 runners aren’t making it into major finals anymore. Ruthe is insane not only extremely fast but watch any of his races he has got steely determination to get every last drop of effort out of himself.

I won this race a few years ago lol. 2001 to be exact! Was unexpected as I was known as a x country runner, not a track runner. Also I will defend this being 3 in the field. This will always be the case when champs are in Dunedin! There was only 3 in the U/20 5000m men in 2000 when in Christchurch. So really not much has changed lol. Secondly, the quality of the field was high! No local runners being lapped for a soft medal! lol
I remember a similar race I was involved in. 3000m U20 men NZ champs. Only 4 starters but was the best 4 juniors in the country! Ran at Inglewood track where the NZ 10k champs were run back in the days where Jono Wyatt, John Henwood, Robbie Johnson ran (all sub 28 runners!) Plus auzzies would come over for a fast 10 k!
