FWIW, it seems like the Diamond League in Monaco will have a men’s 5000 and Silesia a men’s 1500m. Jakob typically goes to both, and tries to run fast at both. Maybe he wants to go for the WRs at both? I certainly hope so, because I already got my tickets.
He is the 4th fastest in history in the 1500m and the 3rd fastest in the Mile. He is the fastest since 10 years and the fastest in any of the last 4 seasons.
He has the WIRs in both the 1500m and the Mile by significant margins.

The problem is that Eugene is July 5 and Monaco is July 11, so unless he skips Pre, it's hard to imagine him racing in Monaco. If he's serious about targeting the 5k, I think it's more likely he does so in Oslo. He can run the mile in Eugene (and London if necessary), and then has three shots at the 1500 between Silesia, Brussels, and Zurich. If he does end up running Monaco, I think it's more likely to be a 1500. Silesia will hold a mile if he wants it, and that's a better stadium for a record attempt than Hayward.
Before the season, Jakob indicated that he is going for the WR at Monaco. He also mentioned that he would spend less time in the US, since the time difference and travel sets him back. So I think he will skip Pre.
It sure seems like he’ll be leading from at least 900m out based on his comments in the article. He’s still giving the macho, “I want to do it the hard way” and win by a large margin type spiel
He also probably is deluding himself in the idea that he’d have won if Tim hadn’t gone with his surge at 700 to go. In reality, yes it helped Kerr (probably the most) but I find it hard to believe he wouldn’t have gone with the move. Maybe he doesn’t beat Jakob after having to bridge the gap, but it wouldn’t affect Cole or Yared and actually given them less traffic to negotiate. Both guys had to get around Tim.
Jakob seems to harp on Tim “ruining his race” but the truth is Tim runs for first in every race, just like Jakob. There is no patience and hoping to Nordas/Willis your way into a bronze. As soon as Jakob decided to usurp Tim’s role as frontrunner, Tim was always gonna be the guy making his life hardest and bringing the field to him.
Jakob brought up something that is rarely mentioned about the paris 1500. A huge help to the 3 medalists was Timmy C. blowing up his own race by going with Jakob when he tried to form a gap 800 into the race. In doing so, he formed a bridge to Kerr and the Americans.
And that will likely very often be a factor. Komen would do the same thing. He fought like a dog trying to stay on Jakob's shoulder for the first part of the race, instead of tucking in and taking a ride. The kenyans just don't seem to have a sense for racing, unless they are head and shoulders better than everyone (tim 2019).
And I guess you could say the same thing for Jakob as his strategy has failed over and over again.
