Assuming, like others, he couldn't stand working under Gunnelson. Very good coach, but Gunnelson does not have a good reputation in D3 as a likeable guy and is a bit scummy
I've that too. Heinzman makes complete sense there, young coach coming from a bad program where he couldn't recruit a full roster, it'll be easy for Gunnelson to control him and do what he wants with the program.
I am hearing that on the death of their Natty Dogs streak, the Haverford Goats received the light of Islam and unhesitatingly recited the Shahada. Even now the Goats look down on the Ummah from the gardens of Janna. Truly there is no god but Allah, and Mohammad is his prophet!
Weren't the Edgewood women fairly decent before he took over? At least at the conference level. Couldn't even field a full team in cross for men or women last year

Yes, the women dominated at the conference level and were solid at regionals. Individuals qualifiers for xc nats as well and a much bigger team. Like the previous poster said, definitely a hire that Gunnelson can control, which he couldn't do with Flores
I am from the future. Haverford actually wins the Metro Region in 2025, edging out Swarthmore and making nationals. By 2026, the region is securely theirs again and they finish 16th at nationals.

I'm curious what that reputation is. I've only heard and seen good things myself but I'm a pretty hands-off alumn.
The initial coaching hires on both the Men's and Women's side to replace Paul Olsen and Fred Whiteside were AWFUL choices, from the outside looking in it seems like the finally got another good one in Gunnelson.
RE Flores leaving:
Facts:
Flores and Gunnelson were the two finalists for the "Director of Track & Field and Cross Country" position. Gunnelson won out, but being more of a T&F guy wanted a true XC coach, and Flores was still offered a head cross country position which he accepted
Rumors:
Just things I've heard from one inside source or another, who knows how true any of it specifically is, but these are people who would definitely know, and wouldn't have any real reason to lie...
- There's always been at least some frustration about losing out on the director position. - A significant part of Flores looking at Augie, and in taking the head XC job was wanting to be closer to home/family (chicago suburbs)
- Flores has been great with the actual coaching, and not so great with the other responsibilities/job duties of being a head coach
- I initially heard he chose to leave, have since heard he was dismissed (related to the above)
Facts 2.0:
- Looks like as of two days ago he's going to be coaching at Elmhurst College this year (even closer to home)
I'll make a prediction, Quinn White wins xc nationals this year and the outdoor 1500/5000 and he will eventually be considered the best D3 distance runner ever. Running 3:40 and 14:06 as a sophomore, he's just getting started.

Even surpassing Ryan wilson - 3:55 / 1:46 indoors?
Nobody even knows who is hosting the meet. Good luck finding meet info. This course is going to be an shti show, so you better hope your coach takes you to see it.
Looking at a few schedules, La Crosse is going to St. Olaf that weekend and Wartburg is off that weekend. Williams hosts the Purple Valley. Maybe you'll see some regional teams like Emory or Washington & Lee. I'd fully expect to see Pomona and maybe MIT there, but I'm not sure who they will race. Geneseo typically goes to Rochester that week.
Can confirm Chapman has been offered the head xctf position at Drake University and is heavily considering/likely to leave Wartburg. Wonder who will take over?
