Unfair question. US meets are normally 1/10th the size of China, Europe, etc. The US fan wn'r sit for 3 hrs and watch a Pro meet. I just never happens.
For the 37th time. Flo did NOT buy the DL - they do NOT own the DL. Flo simply bought teh US broadcast right will have zero input into the series and will either simply use the international feed with foreign announcers or have a few Flo people call the events as they watch it on their screens in Austin
So just so we are clear Flotrack did NOT buy the DL and does NOT own the DL
Actually the Chinese government gives away the tickets through various SOEs (state owned enterprises) to ensure people go. I would say most people wouldn't pay for tickets and likely will be given them via the state. Similar to the Olympics, world champs, and world juniors. I got in free to see world juniors don't even think there was a ticket when I went

Nike does that in Eugene too but the neighborhood Posse patrols the streets drving Ford F150s and AR-15s oiled and loaded.
US fans suck! Sorry, they just do. I have attended 16 of the last 25 Pre Meets and the levels of enthusiasm and knowledge have declined rapidly. I think that this year’s edition, the 50th, will be my last.
My observations are that the sport is too slow and fractured for mass appeal. There are no leagues, standings, or stakes to cultivate fan following. Sprint fans don’t give a hoot about anything else and leave right after the 100s. Distance fans are largely a bunch of grey hairs and hobby joggers that just armchair analyze, root only for white runners, and spend the whole race trying to sound smart saying stuff like, “What’s Hocker thinking? He needs to keep Ingebrigtsen boxed in!”. Mind you, it’s still the first lap and the last time Master Turkey Trot raced a mile in the 1980s. Put your watch away! You aren’t coaching anyone in the meet and they have a big azz video board showing the splits.
Field event fans spend more time on the concourse than at their seats and this all makes the stadium look half full on TV. They give lots of tickets to kids but they are also roaming the concourse or just looking bored in their seats because they have no clue what’s going on.
It is all rather sad. Plus, when many of the hyped competitors are no shows, any anticipation just leaves the venue. Oh! Tracktown - can we dial back the volume on the Nike ads and find some on field interviewers that don’t rely on yelling and having every interview be, “Congrats, yo! That. Was. Amazing! How you feelin’ right now?….Y’all make some noise for my girl!”. It’s just annoying! Get someone that can interview and not low information hype shouters that are failing to create excitement.

The LA Rejects took over the neighborhood around HF in the mid-1970s due to White Flight from LAUSD School busing. Today their grand kids have the same dekcuf-up L.A. attitude.

Eugene has outrageous Hotel Prices when the NCAA or USATF World/Olympic Trials, $400 or more a night and some are already sold for NCAA in June and the World Championships Trials for 2025 Tokyo.

Thank you - YES these on field interviews posts races/events add nothing to the meet experience. Do we really need an interviewer screeching in Ebonics?

The whole town of Eugene & Springfield is ruined by L.A. people not just Hayward Field area. They still won't adapt to Oregon ways.

I feel fortunate that I’ve never attended a meet similar to what you’ve experienced.
Another problem is that distance fans want to watch 800, 1500, 5000m and don't care too much about the sprints. Sprints fans are the same way; they won't care about Fisher running in a 5000m. So half the meet doesn't really interest me.
Never understood people that weren't interested in every track event.
High school meets are better than pro meets because they keep rolling along. Pro track has too many dead spots that kill the excitement.
While the 100s are going, the 1500, 5000, or Steeplechase athletes should be doing striders. The sprinters need to be cleared from the track no more than two minutes after their race. Flowers and 60 seconds of photo posing for the winner then vacate the track. The mixed zone is for interviews. Only allow victory laps at major championships.
Action on the track should be near constant. Provide iPads and wireless headsets for throwers and jumpers to get coaching - no more jogging across the track to get advice because a live race should be happening.
Tighten the timeframe for jump attempts. Once the officials have cleared the runway or apron, you’ve got 25 seconds to initiate your attempt. No delays to start crowd claps and because the breeze isn’t right.
We don’t stop basketball after a windmill dunk to get the player’s reaction to repeated slo-mo highlights. Football doesn’t have a five minute delay between touchdown and extra point for a sideline gab (“Your second score of the night! How you feeling right now, Saquon?”). But track makes the stadium crowd sit through ten minutes of dead time so that TV can show a half dozen replays of a sprint race and for Lewis Johnson to ask Noah Lyles some softball questions while he poses, preens, and gasps for air.
I paid to attend a track meet. Show me track competition! I don’t care if Crouser is pumped after throwing 72 feet on his first attempt or if Sha’carri feels dissed at the moment. I can see that stuff online or at LRC if I am so inclined.
