He’s 28 and was 13th at the Olympics. He’s not worth a big pay check
Agreed!
Kiprun has made some really poor choices in over paying has been athletes. For example: Paul Chelimo, Edward Cheserek and now Jimmy Gressier
I mean... Cheserek did just run a 2:05 marathon which is still decent. Chelimo will probably get into 2:08/7 territory in the next few years or so. I think he'll figure out the marathon.

2:05 is decent, but still 2-3 minutes from being competitive at a major. Ches is nowhere near making a Kenyan team and has very little marketing value in Europe where his NCAA exploits are almost unknown. I don't think he's a poor choice to sponsor, but he's also not an athlete that will put Kiprun on the map. Gressier might as he's a regular on the DL circuit and the start lines of top road races. If he can repeat his sub-13, sub-27, and sub-60 performances in Kiprun equipment, he'll be a game changer for how the brand is perceived.
He's worth what someone wants to pay him you dolt. It's called the free market.
Unbelievable.
They complain about the lack of money in the sport, someone gets offered a decent paycheck and the idiots come out of the woodwork to complain.
Maybe amateur rules should be enforced again to stop these kinds of discussions? I suppose that it would at least clear up the doping problem in Kenya...
To stop these discussions, the people who complain that someone gets paid to run should stop complaining. Do they think Kiprun is going to see this and take the money back? It's just stupid.
Decathlon is a huge company (revenue of more than 15 billion euro in 2023, biggest sport store throughout Europe), and Jimmy Gressier is a handsome, charismatic runner. Seems a good deal for both.

I've heard that it's around €1m per year. It sounds a lot, but Decathlon is a French company so they're paying a premium to have a top French star in their kit.
You are invariably one of the best sources on LRC. Really per annum or, as others have indicated, possibly a 4 or 5 year cycle which from my naive POV looks more comparable to other things I read?
Lots of ifs and buts but he's a potential marathon star and whilst he ran wonderfully in Paris 10000 I'm not sure he has much upside at that event, at least, not global medal level.

More info has since come out and it looks like it is actually €800,000 per year until 2028. Gressier has denied this, but athletes always obfuscate the terms of their contracts. Again, this is probably a premium only available to Gressier as the best French distance runner representing a French brand. His medal potential is not great on the track, but he is always prominent in the DL, the roads, and often XC. Kiprun needs the legitimacy and profile he can bring.
