Gorillas in zoos age and lose muscle. Have you ever looked at former pro bodybuilders like Ronnie Coleman, Dorian Yates, Lee Haney, Arnold, Phil Heath, Jay Cutler? they're all still huge muscular men now in their late 40s to 70s, but they're just smaller versions of what they were in their prime
Former competitive bodybuilder back in the 1980s. Coleman has major health problems. He had something like 12 plus back surgeries & can barely walk. He does not look good at all.
Dorian Yates is on TRT, so he looks good for his age. I think Arnold is on TRT but he's doesn't look that good anyway. I believe he had major heart surgery not too long ago. Cutler is the gear because he's thinking of competing again. I don't know about Haney & Health but I wouldn't be surprised if they weren't using TRT also.
Understand that there's widespread use of TRT by former bodybuilders, athletes, Hollywood celebrities, etc. I think even Bezos is on TRT. Lol.
Do you have actual evidence that gorillas in zoos don't lose muscle mass as they age?
There are multiple peer-reviewed studies by zoologists evaluating whether older gorillas are hench AF and the degree of their hench AFness. Therefore this thread is based on an empirically demonstrable premise.
Adult male gorillas eat up to 45lbs of food per day. Even though it’s all plant based that’s a heck of a lot of protein and calories to maintain a pretty impressive size. Ever noticed that most old people tend to eat less and less as they age? I’ve definitely noticed this with a lot of my older relatives who eat like a sparrow and get more and more withered. Not to mention as you age it’s naturally harder to maintain muscle mass so it’s a double whammy for muscle loss.
Not me, at 64, I eat a lot every day - healthy food - but a lot 😏 I'm hungry all the time but I'm also working out every day altering cardio days & weight lifting days.
Yes, definitely, it's harder to maintain muscle mass as you age. I don't look anything like I did back in the 1980s when I was competing in bodybuilding.
The main reason for this is age-related declining hormones - particularly testosterone for men. Testosterone is the catalyst for protein synthesis and tissue growth & repair.
More than just that. The quality of mitochondria in our cells declines with age and mitochondrial DNA degrades with age so we end up with under-performing and non-performing mitochondria. This has been an area of intense anti-aging research and supplements such as Elysium Health's BASIS are based on such research. Look into the benefits of Resveratrol in combination with any of the NAD supplements.
The amount of digestive enzymes in our intestine declines with old age. I knew a lady who took digestive enzyme supplements and she looked great in her mid 50s and had lots of energy.
There are undoubtedly other things as well happening in our bodies as we age.
A decline in mitochondrial quality and activity has been associated with normal aging and correlated with the development of a wide range of age-related diseases. Here, we review the evidence that a decline in mitochondria fu...

TRT greatly increases the odds of cancer. Best to stay away from it but is a personal choice whether you want to feel better for a few years then get cancer or slowly melt away over many years.
