Pat Porter is awesome. He ran 4:29 and 9:51 for the mile and the 2 mile in high school. Then he went to Adams State and trained like a beast going on to win 8(!) consecutive US cross country championships, setting a pr of 27:46 in the 10k at the 1988 Olympics. This guy is my hero.
Solis just busted a 28:58 10k at the Mt. SAC relays. Coach Vigil knows how to take guys with minimal talent and train them into national caliber runners. Stories like this one are really inspiring for good but not great runners like me. Maybe I should go to Adams State.
james carney was a 4:30, 9:50 HS runner. PR's of 13:37 and 28:30.

I only ran 5:01 and 10:55 for the mile and two mile in Highschool, In college I placed in the top 10 at the Division I Cross Country National Championships
PS-I'm a female
You think that's slow for a high school female girl?! Shoot, that would win most state championships anywhere!
Goucher told me that he only ran a 9:40 for the 3200 (at altitude) in high school...and now look at him
I think Goucher placed 3rd at cross nationals his freshman year of college, came in the top 10 his junior year ar footlocker, won footlocker nationals his senoir year of highschool, and had 4 state cc championships. I am not aware of his track accomplishments but I doubt his best time was that slow with his other accomplishments.
Goucher ran a 9:35 his junior year in the 3200 at altitude along with prs of 4:16 for the mile and 1:53 for the 800. Not suprisingly, he was injured his senior track season after winning the Footlocker National Championship 5k in 14:41 (approx. 9:25-6 2 mile pace) (destroying favorite Meb Keflezghi).
Goucher only ran xc for three years. He won the state title as a junior and senior and was in the top five in state as a sophomore.
The first cc race Goucher ever won was state his soph year. Check Running with the Buffs
You're correct, he was in the top five or six at the midwest regional qualifier, good enough to qualify for nationals (my mistake).
I heard Josh Moen, who runs for Hansons now, ran around 10:12 in high school for the 2 mile. I believe he ran 28 high in the 10K(? - someone correct me if I'm wrong) at Stanford a few weeks ago.
Brian sell was a 10:0 something 2 miler
your right he played football his freshman year if I remember right
He was injured his senior year in track also, after stepping in a hole during World XC preparation or something.

800-1:59.0 (good way to close a 10k)
1600-4:44 (good way to keep up with a marathon pack at mile 22)
3200-10:03 (a very solid closer to the western states 100 miler)
5k-17:18 (outstanding race walk time)
Son, focus on mutual funds.

I know one guy who was a 10:17 3200m runner and 4:46 1600m runner in hs and is now a 4:03 indoor miler.
my times were similar in HS:
2:10 800
4:44 1600
10:17 3200
17:06 5k xc
today:
4:00 1500 (hopefully will get under that within the next 2-3 weeks)
9:23 steeple
14:51 5000m
25:41 8k XC (i've run that time twice on 2 different courses--east and west coast).
trust me dude, there's hope for you. plus, your 400m time is faster than most "distance runners." you're much better than you think you are. continue to focus on the 400 and 800--no matter what. college--focus on 800 and 1500. after college, you can continue to move up to 5k's and 10k's. you can always build the aerobic energy system, but speed is talent, and you have it. most people don't.
the OP so wants us to say "are you kidding, those times are great, look how fast you are, wowee"
Honestly, find a way to get some real self esteem.
