I went to CSM a few years after Dana Carvey was there. He ran the Steeple, but I think he was just under 10 minutes. 9:10 sounds kind of fast for him.

I read somewhere that they requested Cruise to add "baby fat" for the role in Risky Business. If you watch The Outsiders, which was before it (I think) he was pretty lean.

I read in SI that Alice Cooper's pr in the high school mile was 4:38..the interview was from about 1998. He said that he still ran two miles a day an could run a 6:10 mile. Not bad...considering...

Bruce Dern was supposedly a respectable high school half-miler. Maybe even a college runner, I can't remember. I saw him on a talk show some years ago, talking about how he prided himself every year (he was maybe in his early forties at this point, maybe younger) on still being able to run his h.s. sophomore time in the 880. Then he said something really Bruce Dern-ish, about, "But boy, I'll tell ya, I had to heave my guts out on the side of the track after that, believe me! I had to blow chunks on that one!!!" This remark, as you might imagine, went over like a lead balloon.

Anyone know Dern's times?

In 1966 Ozzy Osbourne ran 13.19 for 3 miles and 13.47 for 5000m, both on Cinder tracks.

Dana Carvey was no 9:10 2-miler. The state record for the 3200m still stands at 9:13 after 24 years.

This is the truth. Dana Carvey had a 9:14 personal best and Tom Cruise ran a 4:22 1600 as a junior in HS.

hate to break it to you, but Alice Cooper was never all that crazy, just a smart guy, really.

I am related to him, in a fairly close manner, and it was all an act. He didn't even drink, let alone use drugs and eat bat heads...

He has spoken to this before as well, they were just a bunch of guys that came up with a good stage idea and went with it.

Bruce Dern was more of an enthusiastic runner than an exceptional one. The best "celeb" runner of the recent day (not going as far back as the actor Roscoe Lee Browne, who was a national champion in the early '50s) may be the singer James Ingram, a standout 400-meter runner. I'm also pretty sure that Ashanti, the singer, was a long jump star.

Paul Newman ate 50 eggs and then still ran 4:14.

Sharon Stone ran a 5:19 mile in hs. Nice.
