100 percent. It’s like the changes they made in baseball a few years back to “attract new fans.” They can’t make people who find baseball boring love it by making the games 20 minutes shorter or making the bases 10 percent bigger, and they aren’t gonna get people who aren’t already hyped for track to tune in with these weak gimmicks. But as for the mixed 4x100 there seems to be a big movement across Olympic sports to have more and more mixed gender events and I admit I don’t see the appeal. They’re especially stupid if you just do the sane distances as the single-sex events, it’d be cooler if they did a mixed 4x800 or some kind of medley, something that isn’t normally on the program anyway.
The mixed relays is just a lead in to accept transgender participation and eventually elimination of womens sports. So Im a NO. Just exactly, what is the percentage of people that want this anyway? My guess is its pretty small and being pushed out by very few as always when it comes to radicalism and liberalism for acceptance of others that want to force their beliefs on the vast majority.
You want something new and interesting to a traditional schedule, throw out an 800 or 1600 medley and let them hammer on each other.
Make field event relays totaling your 3 entries distances or heights. It's not a new concept but doesnt add more time to the schedule and encourages team environment. Id rather see/pay for that than repacharge meaningless races.
It is extremely insulting and disrespectful for a major WA-organized event to exclude disciplines that have been part of athletics for centuries, especially with the $150k prize. What message does that send to the field athletes who already receive minimal coverage and are completely excluded from MJ's event? A lot of them already have to work second jobs or can't afford to commit fully to the sport, and would benefit the most from the prize money. WA really needs to reconsider.
