I'm confused. How were they living before Kiptum made them all that money? Poverty is no joke but were did Kiptum's money go?
Kiptum was married and has kids, no place on Earth does the money go to the parents when someone dies with a wife and kids. He probably took care of his parents when he was alive, we have no idea what the relationship with the wife is with the parents now.
Yep -- I work for a state court system in the probate division and we see it every day where the parents of a deceased spouse are cut off by their former son/daughter in law, who got the bulk of the estate by will or intestate succession and perhaps isn't quite so enamored of the in-laws as their kid was. It's a very tough situation, especially since I'm sure we'd all assume Kelvin was by far the highest earner in any part of that extended family. With his earning power gone, it could well be that the wife is closing ranks. I also wouldn't be surprised if there were a lot of cousins, extended family, long lost "relatives" and friends who suddenly remembered they wanted a relationship with Kelvin and/or a part of his estate when he died, I'm in a major metro county with several pro sports teams so we see that with pro athletes when they pass too. When you're the richest person in your circle by orders of magnitude, everyone wants a bit.

The cost of living is so cheap there(compared to the US). How did they lose all that money. Unless he had a specific will they should have got all the money and Kiptum made a couple hundred thousand dollars which should be enough to retire there. I suspect it went to alcohol and luxuries they could not afford without his help.
Are we totally sure Kiptum's death was an accident? The money he made possibly needed to go in a certain direction, other than his family's. That can lead to getting killed, especially in a lawless glorified warzone like Kenya.

You probably don’t understand the cultural coding in this! I have been saying this since the passing of Kelvin. He was not paid yet when he passed as majors now wait for up to 1-2years after racing before they pay for doping reasons. So this is a way to remind people especially his family is still waiting for that money, Chicago promised would deal with it. I just hope they just didn’t send the money to the agent or Kenyan federation. When it comes to money people are corrupt and you know how it is in Kenya so save your money!
