We know who the contenders are. Any idea on who the challengers will be? are they going after guys like Nico Young, Graham Blanks, etc? Are the challengers in for all four races or will they rotate based on location?
My guess is that there won't be a lot of European/European based athletes at all ^^

Its looking like its shaping up to be a series of tuneup meets for mostly North American athletes. Which is fine, but if an athlete wanted to compete in Slam, DL, and worlds, their season is april-september. The slam seasonis too far from worlds to see athletes in top form at the end either. Like its fine, I'd go to a meet, but it isn't the DL competitor people hoped.
So this is the revolutionary trackleague: Los Angeles, Kingston, Miami, Philadelphia.
Two huge stadiums that are questionable of being filled by full capacity, one small track with two stands that look like they are temporary and one tbd. In all sports, the best athletes and competition are at modern facilities, but GST choose these under-par stadiums. These aren't DL-level, not even WA-gold label-level stadiums, silver-label at best. Who you're gonna attract at these venue's besides hardcore trackfans?
I hoped for more, this is just a flash on the grand scheme of this regarding T&F
maybe they could have Matt Choi, Floberg and Nick Barre race

based on the venue choice, this is not going to work. ignoring europe and just going after US athletes and venues just will not work. theres no market here.

GST tried for Europe but got blocked. The result is more elite track in the USA where it’s needed. and Great having Jamaica kick it off. Being named “ grand slam” in two countries is a little laughable but at least they tried.
Europe has the Diamond League meets which often draw large crowds and huge TV audiences.
If this grows the sport in the US and carries over to the Diamond League that 's a win.

At this point Johnson just seems to want to piss as many people of as possible and thinks he has the long term financial backing to do it successfully.

Yikes, that scheduling conflict is a big misstep. USATF announced their schedule over three months ago.
Also noteworthy: Pre is scheduled for July 5. I can't imagine athletes will be thrilled about doubling June 27-29 and then running Pre less than a week later.
I can't see this working ,Johnston is promoting himself too much,young people don't know who he his or don't give a#...also it's 2 American based europe is d home of athletics..I was hoping of a meet in London,Paris ,Lucerne...

The Pre thing will probably be solved by no long distance races at Pre. For sprinters and middle distance runners it doesn’t feel like a massive deal because there is minimal travel between LA and Pre and is akin to last year with LAGP the week before Pre.

I will promise you this, Capriotti won't be letting Michael Johnson and Grand Slam Track dictate what events are put on at his meet or not. And one thing we know for certain, there will be a Bowerman mile.
Yes the LAGP was a week before Pre last year but the circumstances were totally different. For many the LA meet was the opening race of the season and so it made logical sense to open in LA, then back up a week later in Eugene. That is very different from having run 6 races prior to the GST meet in LA, then running a further 2 there, and then having to/wanting to run Prefontaine.

LAGS and Eug is only a Class E meet with 1-2K fans so nobody cares.. Its Xiaman and Shanghai Class A meets with 50,000 fans each that people want to see..
