I just want one race to make him go through doping controls. It would be hilarious for one of these "hybrid athletes" to get a doping ban for a marathon performance any average middle-aged dude could run.
The only way to end this is via vigilante behavior. Get an LRC goon squad to line up in the vicinity of Choi or find him in the opening miles of a race. At best, ruin his footage by surrounding him and getting in the way of camera shots and act a fool. More extreme? Smash bros GoPro and iPhone or knock the riders off and puncture the bike tires at the sidewalks.
No footage costs him revenue. If the RDs are going to allow this 💩 to continue, then runners have to regulate.
What do people see in this guy or in any influencer? Alexi pappas is so embarrassing. Frolicking around like that is so stupid and cringe. She brings joy to no one and just serves as a massive distraction. Matt Choi needs to be disqualified. He blatantly broke the rules and put other people in danger.
how is it not crystal clear to everyone that people like these are using the sport and the people in it for their own personal profit? matt doesn’t care about growing the sport, or his followers, he nearly mowed them down with bikes. Alexi doesn’t care about spreading joy or promoting the sport she cares about staying relevant and receiving attention. Because if either of them actually cared about the sport they would be respectful to their competitors and fellow runners understanding that people prepared for this day. Theyd take it seriously.
Austin Marathon okayed Matt's chubby bro riding his scooter on the course. I'm assuming Matt got into NYC through an invite and not a lottery, so it wouldn't surprise me if he had permission from NYRR Marketing Team ahead of time as well.
I'm probably not the target market, but I have no real issue with influencers. Let them shoot their shot - its harmless. Where I do take issue is when they negatively influence others - as Matt Choi clearly did, and as the other influencers with cameras chasing them, or weaving all over the course did. It takes away from the experience and the race, and turns an atmosphere of mutual respect in to an atmosphere about THEM at the cost of others. I'm not training and paying to create an environment for their "content".
Of all the influencers I saw on the course (and there were a lot), Alexi Pappas was the most benign out there. She started with the pros (which is sort of stupid) and was walking the race in a wild costume with a dude in a tuxedo (which is kind of attention seeking), but she was on the side of the course and it had zero negative impact on anyone's experience.
I really don't get the Stans who come out on Reddit, LR or Instagram to defend Alex Chois behavior. What happened in your life to make you go to bat for someone you probably don't even know, who's accomplishments are not that impressive?
