Other than being based in the NE there is really no downside to being associated with this coach and training group. Glad for her and I cant wait to see what she does in the future.
"Valby sent Coogan a sample of her recent training. He agreed that she doesn’t run a lot of miles, but she runs more than people might think."
I've been saying this forever. Post XC NCAA's, Valby said she does some 30 plus mile weeks. Every time I've brought this up, people downvote it like crazy as if they refuse to believe she actually runs. Glad Coogan mentioned this.

Yeah, I don't see a ton of downside to cross-training on easy days, and you can actually probably get a better aerobic workout on your easy days that way. The issue will remain the running economy aspect -- that's what lots of actual running miles can help. That relates directly to speed, form, efficiency once you get into that elite upper echelon. She'll need it to threaten for a medal in the future.
I would have guessed that she would have gone to Nike like a lot of others I'm assuming guessed.
Either way, I don't think she'll ever be a factor on the world stage in terms of actually winning anything, but I guess this is good for her and New Balance in terms of selling shoes? I guess? Who knows?
I mean, Sydney is going to go down in history as one of the greatest track athletes ever, but does she sell New Balance any shoes? And Parker Valby won't accomplish a fraction of what Sydney has done, but will she sell New Balance shoes? I guess we'll see.
Does New Balance have a "cool" factor? It doesn't feel like it to me. I could have seen her going to On before New Balance, but it's of course her choice.

Altitude seems to be very beneficial to training. Will she be training at altitude most of the year and only "based" in Boston?

Here's the thing. She needs to worry about running fast and securing the bag. NB needs to worry about selling shoes. She has the "it" factor. Can NB capitalize on it? We'll see. NB does have a cool factor with certain demos. Frat boys have been wearing gray 990s for generations. 574s are way up in popularity across a ton of demos right now. This is the big swing NB is taking to get a slice of the cool runner demo.

That team does several altitude stints each year. Of course I think it is mainly 1500 m runners who are mostly better at dropping down to 800 than going up to 5000 (ESP maybe not). A 5000/10000 runner will be different.
It was obvious she wasn't going to Nike to anyone with a lick of intelligence since she didn't sign with Nike right away. Instead she was waiting out her contract all along to go elsewhere.
I was a test runner for New Balance around '85 when the 700's came out. I had previously been a NIKE runner and was in the Terra TC's for my runs. I was breaking those things down around 700-800 miles. The NB700 had a dual density midsole and black carbon rubber outersole. The midsole was low and not built up much, thinner than the Terra's. I put over 2,000 miles on those things without hardly any breakdown. We cut one of the shoes in half, and even the forefoot area wasn't compressed much. When they hit the market, single density midsole, vibram outersole-same crap as always. NB would have made a killing this summer at Paris with posters of Bol and Sydney. SO many people had stopped in the NB stores asking. Now with Parker-how about a calendar?
