The 10,000 m distance is not run often on the track.
Outside of “the 10” held in the USA and it most recently being used as a means to gain a qualifying time, the other opportunities are at majors (Worlds and Olympics).
the London 3,000 m he said he had flown in and raced as a tune up then went directly to altitude in Switzerland. Jet lag very well would have contributed to him feeling and saying his legs didn’t have and change-over or pop - whatever he said it was something along those lines.
If you believe, like I do, that majors have excellent drug testing and keeping samples from said events for long periods afterwards for additional testing as testing methods improve is a deterrent to dopers then it is pretty simple to realize that is why Grant has had great success in the 10,000 m. If you also look to his success at majors in the 5,000 m he also has great success at majors even off of doubling which no athlete did/made both finals in Paris. His “success” at Diamond league, place wise, has been very good on paper but when one looks at time/place differentials often the winners are substantially ahead. Rightly or wrongly, I believe that has to do with Diamond League’s selective testing many of the athletes they feel are not suspect dopers in order to save their events reputation and open the flood gates to fast times. Yes Grant has run fast at DL and set American records there but he has been a ways back except when he broke the US 5,000m record and that was a two man race with Krop pulling away with ease down the final stretch. When Grant set those US records in DL races he was tested in order to ratify the records.
Thats my rant and I am sticking to it.
Back to your point and mine on the 10,000 m and to add: Why would Grant run “the 10” if he already has the WC qualifying time from his Olympic performance? Given the Grand Slam commitments and probably others - why would he? I hope to see him run a road race or a cross country race if it makes sense for him, and have a great WC in Tokyo.
