None of us knows what led to his death, but it is very clear, first, that he was doping, since he was caught and banned, second, that he was among over 400 Kenyans to be banned in the past ten years, third, that doping has played a role in numerous early deaths of Kenyan athletes, and fourth, that none of that is the sign of a healthy situation. Something has got to change in Kenyan athletics, and it's going to take the resolute actions of an international federation to get it going and a resolute Kenyan government to carry it through by clamping down on its drug doctors and drug mill pharmacies.
