...But it's actually a race, not a time trial. A championship races to be exact. Ingy has proven to be only a marginally good championship racer in Championships where there are several top competitors. His top end speed is the slowest of everybody toeing the line today.
ElG never had pacers, super shoes, or pacing lights. Neither did Coe and Cram. World Records never last and when Ingy last won a 1500 global championship there was only one strong competitor (Tim Cheryot). Now there are 3 -5 legit top competitors plus others banging on the door. ...and they are each much faster than Ingy over 800 meters.
Ingy is the GOAT 3k-2 miler, period.
Ingy is among the GOATs at 5k.
Among the current crop of incredible competition, Ingy cant win Global Championships any longer at 1500/mile so not a GOAT miler.
...But he is a better Miler than a Half Marathon guy that's for certain.
Why do you say El G never had pacers? You must have never watched the videos of his WRs. For the 1500 WR, he had two pacers: Robert Kibet went through almost 900, while Noah Ngeny made it through 1100. In the mile WR, Kibet again paced the first ~800, while William Tanui made it almost 1200. You might say El G had the best pacemakers of all time, considering Ngeny and Tanui’s career accomplishments - future and former Olympic champions!
