I am not saying all tattoos are mistakes and bad judgment, but most are indeed. There are intelligent people that get tattoos.
Unfortunately the tattoo removal business is booming, so some of the people that make mistakes can hide their past. A past for a woman is important because women judge a man critically on what they perceive his future to be--usually entailing job/money and whether he can support her if necessary. Of course the women predominantly don't want their past judged, but it is a necessary and fair tradeoff due to their scrutiny of a man's future.
People with tattoos tend to be borderline illiterate, so you two sound like a perfect match.
I am no fan of tattoos, but if you actually believe this you must be beyond borderline ignorant. All kinds of people have tattoos - I have no idea why, but illiteracy is not the reason.
I'll give one example - Mina Kimes - Yale graduate, successful writer and TV sports analyst. About as far from illiterate as you can get.
My partner of 20+ yrs recently got her first tatoo (kind of interestingly its "Inky" and a silhouette drawing of a kitty. For Ng Ka Pei, the full name of her deceased Siberian Taby.
Ink, see.) It's so she wont forget her "best kitty" --since we both are turning the corner on age and memory. I think it is cute and appropriate. But I am generally just puzzled as to why people who are not Aboriginal, sailors or soothsayers inflict permanent grafitti on their pristine body. Or rings in their faces or genitalia for that matter. A tribal thing?
