Josh Kerr ran a 61 on the road as a training run. Very startling to see Jakob so far behind.
Josh Kerr’s high 61 came on a downhill ineligible wr course and in a completely different point in the season when it comes to training. Ask Kerr to run a hard 13.1 right now, there is no way he comes close to running a personal best. Like-wise, ask Jakob to not run Copenhagen and run the San Diego half this winter, he runs faster than Kerr’s. This Kerr to Jakob half marathon PB comparison is apples to oranges.

It is. Kerr's time was much faster. And no walking.

Nothing about his behaviour suggests narcissism. He took a risk by doing the race, he went with the tough pace, blew up, carried on (rather than fake injury and hobble off, which would've also avoided having an actual finishing time), AND he took the loss on the chin, doing interviews and admitting the pace was too hard. If anything it seems like he doesn't care too much what other people think.

You didn't follow the background to the race, where he indicated he was in on the wr attempt. This is a runner whose stated ambition is to take all the distance wr's and be the greatest runner in the history of the sport. He has a vastly inflated view of himself (while diminishing those who beat him). That's quite usual with narcissists.
Especially for someone like you. It's like looking in the mirror.
So you have just agreed that Jakob is an extreme egotist.
I judge a runner by results and couldn’t care less about personalities. Would you prefer a 3:30 runner with a humble personality? You’ve never met Ingebrigtsen, anyway.
ITT - a lot of people who have never ran or never coached anybody near 63 minutes in the half spewing nonsense about how the Olympic gold medalist in the 5,000m should change his training…
Nah, if anything that means he has immense potential in the 10k.
If he could muster a 27:29 on the road after a 3:30 on his legs 2 days before as well as several months of 1500m racing, he for sure can break 27:00 when well-rested on the track, even without specific training. And with it, he can attack the WR. It just may not be sub-26 as many people had envisioned though, and that included me ngl. I'm not gonna play the "I told ya" kind of guy.
in the HM, that would be a different story and I think no one in their right mind would think Jakob would ever be dominant (or even competitive) in the marathon.
Sure, he could have run faster with more preparation and rest, but there’s no way to quantify what he might have run. He’s still at square one in providing a race result that supports the idea that he’ll ever be capable of setting WRs at 10000m and the HM.
I watched the stream, it's not that he just completely dropped off the pace at the 10k mark. He completely stopped, hands on knees, out of breath, walked for like a minute, tried to go with the next group, then stopped again, walked etc. He was completely empty.
So probably in a 10k race this day he would have ran maybe 10 seconds faster. Which would be like 27:12-27:17.
The scary truth is Jacob suffers from an extreme narcissistic disorder. He has reached the point where simply winning no longer gives him the attention he desires. The Olympics win was not enough he had to either win in the most extreme way leading from start to finish in WR time, or losing dramatically was just as rewarding to the attention he would receive. This 1/2 attempt was another way to get extreme attention, either breaks WR or collapses like a HS girl at the end of an XC race.
I dont know if he's narcissistic, but considering what we've read about his childhood,i think its affected him, badly.Yes,he's an amazing talent, but it all seems to have been forced onto him.He knows nothing else, but running.

I heard it from an absolutely solid and trusted source that Jakob had a sore throat and a bit of a cough last night.

Here's another thought: he trained for the mile-5k all season, raced the DL final on Friday night, and then tried to race a half in a different country on Sunday morning. The dude is human.
