No elite runner really cares about the Diamond League aside from whatever money they can make from it anyway, or whatever opportunity it affords them to maybe et a record or WCQ/OQ. There's no prestige in the series. It's just outside money propping up a quasi-league for track and field.
GH and others probably see no need in running unless they feel they personally benefit more from it than if they don't participate. Coming off the Olympics, the leverage is particularly low to persuade athletes into competing right now anyway.

She could have won two events outside her niche event. Grant Holloway can only compete in Hurdles.

Sydney is a bigger name than Grant. Normy people know Sydney. And It's not like Grant was offered Zero dollars, he was probably offered SOMETHING, but not what he wanted. He also got beat a week or two ago in a relatively slow time for him, so he's not even as dominant as Sydney. Maybe he was dealing with something and not running well, and not confident he would even win the thing. So he didn't want to show up unless he had a bunch of guaranteed money.
As does Sydney. The reality is the Brussels went out of their way to pay Sydney who openly avoids the Diamond Leauge and is going to be the face of a rival league next year instead of Grant.
But the reality is for the casual fan Syndey is a way bigger figure in the sport than Grant. If Grant wants Sydney $$, he needs to get the media to play up his 60h win streak and also break the WR in the 110h.
But I still can't believe they paid Sydney. If I was the meet director, I would never pay the face of a rival league a penny.
