Name anyone else who is “best” in an event with 3 years no golds

That's a very big if since Kerr has shown he doesn't have what it takes to be an Olympic champion and Hocker got paced to a 3 second PB.

1500m/5000m, Jakob has streeted field since 2021 in terms of global golds and medals. DL finals are also pretty good as well.

Kerr has a better 1500 championship record since (and maybe even including) 2021, one could argue, but Jakob's times definitely close that gap. It is between Jakob and Kerr for who is the best of the past 4 years, but I can't help but feel like it ain't Kerr. One of them definitely runs impressive 1500's more often...

Jakob has actually won Gold at the Olympics. Kerr has not and never will. His best chance was Paris and Cole destroyed all of Kerr’s hopes and dreams, never mind his reputation.

Currently I think Jasmine Camacho-Quinn fits the description.

This just highlights what I love about the mile. It's not an easy event to win. Even the biggest superstars (including someone with close to GOAT status like El G) don't always win.

I'm curious what your point is though. We are all aware (as is Jakob!) that he has lost in the past three global finals.

At least he has been in the mix though. It's not like he flames out in the first round or never medals!

An Olympic gold, two Worlds silvers and 3 European golds is better than Worlds gold and Olympics bronze and silver, even if you ignore the European championships.

Ron Clarke was probably the best 5k/10k runner in the world for about 7 years (1963-1970) and never won a gold medal.

Bekele: 5000m 2004 onwards: WR + Silver medal. No 5000 medal 2005 WC or 2007 WC

Paula Radcliffe: 2002 onwards. London Win. Chicago Win. London Win. WR. OLY DNF. New York Win. London Win.

Ron Clarke: 17x WR from 5000m-10M: 0x Silver/Gold medals at WC or OLY's.

Paul Tergat: 2:04:55 WR 2004-2007, 0x World/OLY Golds (0x medals at all at Marathon).

Asafa Powell: 2x 100m WR, 0x individual Gold or SIlvers.

Eliud Kipchoge: 2022/2023/2024 = 0x Medals.

Point being, I know you don't care for actual answers because this thread was just made to irritate Jakob fans, but these instances do occur - someone can dominate on the circuit for years and just not do something right for the one big race everyone remembers. Just as Kerr can have an unremarkable year and then pop off just when it matters most and gets huge praise for it.

The year he broke the 4 min barrier he also won gold at the Empire Games, beating the then world record holder Landy, and he won the European championships. He retired at the end of that year.

He makes the point. He wasn't the best.

Because neither were the best.

Previous generations of the best runners. He doesn't meet their standard.
