SUNY TRACK AND FIELD HEAD COACHING SALARIES

What's wrong with Vives making that money? He won over 60 America East Titles in 20 years. He's been coaching there for 38 years and probably gets at least a 2-3% increase each year. It adds up.

Good for him for negotiating a great contract in the middle of his AEC win streak.

He's been coaching at Albany as long (or longer) than many other coaches on that list have been alive.

Popovici is the head track and field coach, Dan Moore is the head cross country coach. Takes a minute to look this up before posting.

They make close to the same amount.

Seems that these are just listing track and field coaching positions (either XC/T&F Director or Head T&F Coaches). Geneseo's XC head coach, Brockport's XC head coach and Bings XC head coach are not listed.

The original thread was listing coaches in order of their salaries. They listed the lower Geneseo coach and didn't list the higher paid coach.

Everyone knows Dan calls the shots. Popovici is head coach in title only. That's why Dan gets paid 6% MORE than Popovici.

Dan and Pop are good coaches. Maybe because they know what they're doing. Or maybe because they're great at brainwashing 17 year old's and great at flirting the lines of what's ethical.

They have certainly won a lot but have the most funds/coaches/scholarships. But mismanagement of the budget, lazy scholarship/recruiting, traveling to PR just to be on vacation with your family, or doing cash advance to skim off the top... Product of the environment of Albany... just chaos in the dept. He may be a nice guy but shady.

SUNY Buffalo and Stony Brook have the best budgets in the SUNY system, and are probably in the best conferences too (MAC annd CAA). All the info is on EADA. Albany is probably the best team, though their distance is kind of shaky. Roberto Vives is like 75 years old so it’s no shock he’s getting paid that much.

Knowing both Patrick and Mitchell personally & professionally, I don't think Patrick is qualified to even hold Mitchell's clipboard.

Vicky is a class act and a very good coach to whom I would absolutely send my kids (if Buffalo was on their radar for their future). Simply put, I trust her.

Steve, on the other hand, seems to turn over assistant coaches regularly (and replaces them with inexperienced, new grads, and folks just working there for the free classes). I know MANY very experienced (read: overqualified) collegiate coaches that have applied and interviewed for jobs at Cortland only to be shut out of jobs by kids that ran for him that won't say no to the Ginger-in-Chief.

Not sure what was being referred to earlier in the thread about Steve possibly being on his way out at Cortland but (if this is actually true...which is always doubtful around here), I won't shed a tear for the him or the program.

P.S. Mike Thompson should be making more salary. He has guided the Bearcats from D3 to D2 to D1 and has been successful at each level. Great guy to boot. While these boards are distance-centric and he's a field event guy, I can still totally appreciate his ability as a coach and character as a person.

Just one story about Vives and distance. I acknowledge that it's one case but ...

He recruited my daughter quite heavily- emails from early on, the typical letter, etc

Then she got injured, they stopped. She emailed to visit (before July going into her senior year) no reply, nothing.

She comes back from injury, has a good race, he calls (fall of her senior year).

She asks him where he was when she was injured and if he'd abandon her if she ran for him and was injured. He apologized and she told him that she wasn't interested in running for him.

Every coach in the NCAA does that, though. I've heard stories of Mike Smith at NAU taking back scholarship offers because girls got injured their senior year of high school.

Vives is not a distance coach yet was working hard to recruit distance runners. Your story paints him as a hard worker.

I bet oatrick teaches courses for the phys Ed department at cortland which would increase his pay from just coaching . Unless these salaries from a coaching website and not just how much someone got paid at a achool
