1. Early season race (after not racing indoors or xc) Jakob at Pre Classic. He tells you every interview he never knows what shape he's in as he does not do race-paced all out workouts. That was his first race all year.
2. Olympic season Jakob where he PACED the entire race at almost WR pace and Kerr just took advantage of that.
Kerr is opportunistic and beats him at vulnerable points. But...no one holds his form late into the season like Jakob. No one. It's a hallmark of his entire training strategy. The races are his real workouts and so he just get better and better laaaaate into the season.
He's going to smoke those chumps.
Normally I would agree, but Kerr is way more rested than the others, and if Jakob was/is actually sick it’s going to affect him. Hocker and Nuguse look a little cooked at this point based on race results but you never know.
Richardson v Alfred in the women 100M. I'm intrigued to see if Richardson has learnt to deal with her nerves. She could be the premier women star in the 100M as she is the most athletically gifted. However if she does not deal with the nerves she will never realize her full potential. That would be a shame.
Bell and Wiley in the 800. LetsRunners heads might go pop.
...and Akins in the mix. Is her head in this race after saying 'peace-out' to Brooks and the Beasts? Also, if she's not going to say anything about why she bounced, is Flynn Sports going to say something, or is this drama going to play out in court, or is it tied up in NDAs?

Agree, they are all past their peak fitness except Jakob but he has been sick. winner is likely 328ish
is hobbs doing the 1k in zagreb against arop? i've had trouble finding any info for that race, but I figure that hobbs would have a spot in the 1500m if he wanted no? He just got 5th in the Olympics. Does he not have a chance to make the DL final?
here is what i found from the zagreb website: Marco Arop is coming to Zagreb with a clear goal: “I want to break the 1000m world record!” / BHM News / 30. August 2024. The current 800m world champion and Olympic silver medalist wants to crown his excellent form by breaking the 25-year-old 1000m world record. The highlight of the 74th Boris Hanžeković Memorial will be the attempt to break the 1000m world record. This record, set in 1999, stands at 2:11.96 and is held by Kenyan Noah Ngeny, the 1500m Olympic champion from Sydney 2000. After a quarter of a century, the current 800m world champion and Olympic silver medalist, Marco Arop, will attempt to dethrone Ngeny from the list of world record holders. In recent weeks, the Canadian has run the 800 meters under 1:42.0 three times and wants to crown his excellent form with records “After some great 800m races, I will be running 1000m at the meeting in Zagreb, and I want to break the world record in the event. After that, I am heading to Brussels to break the 800m world record as well. The record is definitely going down,” announces Arop, who ran 1000 meters in 2:14.74 this year. To reach the world record, Arop will be supported by outstanding British 800m runners Elliot Giles and Olympic finalist Max Burgin, as well as 1500m European U23 champion and Olympic finalist Stefan Nillessen. Croatia’s best 800m runners, Marino Bloudek and Nino Jambrešić, will also participate in the race. Be sure to be at the Mladost Stadium in Zagreb on the afternoon of September 8th.
no mention of hobbs. injury? is there a road mile to defend this year? calling it a season after the olympics?
According to some recent tagged Instagram posts, it looks like Hobbs is back in flagstaff which means his season is over. Couldn’t run a PR in the 1500m/800m in his recent DL’s and won’t get in the DL final with pts so it makes sense on why he shut it down.
Also, not enough defibrillators for a 14-runner 800 field . . . that must be a record in itself.
what is the deal with that? and 3 swiss athletes? come on
You can't actually be surprised at that. Switzerland has more depth in women's 800 than any other event. None of them are great but they are all more than respectable. They actually showed some restraint in not including Hoffmann, who has competed in this meet every recent year. They certainly aren't going to exclude Werro, who hasn't progressed this year but is their young hope in the Micaela Rose mode
I still remember Jakob running that 3:43 and 7:23 back to back late last season and that was insane and he had to kick hard to win both races! And now he ran the 7:17 just a week ago. Crazy! It's like he is getting faster each week. Remember last year he was beat in the world champs 1500m but two weeks later ran that crazy fast world record 2,000 and that set things up for that mile/3k double. He's a machine!
At quick glance the standout aspect is all the names who are there, including Duplantis and the other pole vault guys, even though it's not a Diamond League event.
I don't like the ones who dependably don't show up after the global final. Nuances are out the window. It is low class.
it's true, they all deserve to be in there. it's a stacked race no matter which half of them you would choose to keep there. the only 1:59 runner is Sarna, so probably she's the pacemaker. will be nerve-racking at the crossover but very exciting and unpredictable.
But, and there is always a but - it's always hard for me to comprehend a Weltklasse meeting without the classic mens 800m A & B races. In the old Golden League format where the meets could choose what events they wanted to have in the program, these 2 races were just awesome. The B-race would go at like 6pm just before the start of the TV window and guys would just get after it. It was a thing for the B race guys (all of whom were usually 1.43/4 guys anyway) to see how many guys they could beat from the A race which would of course go at like 9pm. It was just an awesome atmosphere around these races.

Healthy young runners in their prime (bonus: without anger issues) should donate any spare medical equipment to the LetsRun message board whenever Hull, Bell, Wiley, etc. are running.
In one interview Hobbs Kessler spoke of doing some additional races "plural." But then there has been just the one race since then. I wonder if he couldn't get into Zurich because he hadn't accumulated any previous DL points for the 1500? If so, that's unfortunate, given that his PR is among the top 6 or 7 in that DL race and he finished 5 in the Olympics. Maybe he's planning to run the 5th Avenue Mile? Or maybe he just listened to his body/mind and decided it was time to hang it up for the season. But if so, I would expect him to go to Ann Arbor for some rest/recovery/family time rather than to Flagstaff. I guess we'll see.

Hobbs Kessler is doing the 5th Avenue Mile - along with teammate Bryce Hoppel

I'm guessing the lights will be set to 2:18.0 @ 1000, but no one truly follows the rabbits if they stay on that pace. We're in for the biggest mismatch between wavelights and the field in the men's 1500 this season. Hocker & Nuguse are done (for now), Jakob has been (still is?) sick although he probably gives it a try, Kerr doesn't run fast without being pulled along by someone else for at least 1350m.
People expect a close call on the WR, but the winning time is going to be a 3:28 mid at best.
On to Brussels.
Kerr may bring his A game.
Nuguse may have trained through his last mile race which may have been more a training run and got out kicked by a 143 guy.
Hocker had a small training block as well,
so, while your analysis is very reasonable, these people may have one more good one in them.
except super fresh Kerr,
cudos to Jacob for showing up with his B game, all balls this guy.
