Bit of a shame but probably for the best. She's already spoken about the impact Tokyo had on her, taking some time after finally achieving gold will probably help going into next year.
Still, it opens the door for the field going into the DL final. Moraa hasn't looked great this year. Some of those that didn't have a good Olympics could look at this is a chance for redemption. Reekie and Akins could use this is a focus to gather momentum for next year. More likely it just goes to form and Duguma takes it, but you never know.
I do wonder if Keely is already fed up with endlessly being followed by paparazzi and bloody tabloids every time she breathes. I'm looking at you Daily Mail
Now the focus has been switched to the Mens's 800M, which will be very exciting for the rest of the Diamond League series. The top Women's 800M runners are done for the year already.
In the 400mH the two Olympic Gold Medal winners are done for the year????? I guess their main focus is the Gold, which makes sense.....but for the fans the rest of the season will be hollow in the Womans 400mH, in the Men's Warholm and Dos Santos should still be competing.
Hodgkinson has raced 55 times between the Tokyo and Paris OGs. SML has raced 29 times within the same timeframe.
Hodgkinson is a seasoned runner that actually competes year-round, globally, to promote her sport.
SML has competed outside the US 7 times in 3 years, and 5 of those races were in Paris.
That's such a ridiculous stat.
Why should SML compete weekly against completely inferior competitors. It'd be like a HS State Champion runner racing JV meets every week. ...Boring and sandbagging.
The only competition SML could possibly have is if she started racing against men or if she switched events.
And she couldn't care less what LRC incels want!...That's possibly my favorite attribute about her!

Mu is actually lucky and fortunate she didn't make it to Paris.
In her current 2024 form, she would have completely been embarrassed and most likely not even lined up in the final.
From here, she can either find great motivation and commit fully to a T&F career and focus on the WR and 28 LA Olympics. Or she can go the other way and fade away from t&f. ...which would be a true tragedy and perhaps the greatest waste of talent in the sport.
Keely legitimately deserves her Gold, has been hungry for it and has worked the hardest for it and she is the best in the world at it in 2023, 2024 and probably next year too. ...But she knows like most of us, that without Mu to compete against, the luster and prestige is not the same.
I'm sure she was offered good money to do this race before she withdrew so I get why she offered, but it's still a bit surprising that Olympic medalists try to jump back into DL and other elite events so soon after the biggest race they've run in 4 years. Also surprising is that DL tries to run events so soon after the Olympics (the same month, even!). The athletes usually need more time to recover. I wouldn't run anything after an Olympics before the next month, if at all, if I were any of them.

Does Nia Akins even have a coach right now? Where is she training? Has she moved from Seattle?

To be clear she was already qualified for the DL final. I’m not really sure what the DL is supposed to do though, the season doesn’t naturally run until October. I don’t think the timing of these meets is why athletes shut it down. Most of them just want to end on a high note (Rai, Syd, Sha’Carri), and others seem to have injuries (Keely, Lyles) they don’t seem worth pushing through. It’s clear the top class of the sport is making more than enough money though if they’re skipping hundreds of thousands in earning opportunities.
