I strongly disagree. Shawshank is a wildly overrated melodrama. Pulp Fiction is great though, particularly for it's editing. It wouldn't get into my top 2 or 3 though. The best movie from 1994 is Chungking Express. Hoop Dreams is #2.
It has stood the test of time for nearly 40 years and isn't dated. It's still a great movie today and it's filled with one-liners that are still used today.
[Vizzini has just cut the rope The Dread Pirate Roberts is climbing up] Vizzini: ... INCONCEIVABLE! Inigo Montoya: You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
[repeated line] Inigo Montoya: Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.
Grandpa: As you wish.
Westly: As you wish.
Miracle Max: your friend here is only MOSTLY dead.
Plus it has an incredible sword fight between the man in black and inigo montoya.

The Princess Bride also has the best use of voiceover narration in any movie of all time. Definitely a 5/5 movie.
I commented earlier that Shawshank Redemption is wildly overrated - a big negative of that movie is that it has to shove it's themes down your throat with its melodramatic voiceovers. The Princess Bride is on the opposite side of the voice over narration spectrum.
While I would consider each of these (or at least one of the LOTRs) 5/5 movies, their gaps in narrative logic are big negatives for me if considering them for a "greatest" title, particularly because they all rely so much on the narrative. Terminator 2 is a lesser offender of the three though. That movie is almost perfect.

I love Princess Bride, just incredible. But the same could be said for an even older movie, Casablanca. "I'm shocked, shocked to ....". Many others too. To me, Casablanca is the greatest movie ever made.

"What is your nationality? I'm a drunkard."
Casablanca has to have the greatest dialogue in cinema history. Combined with its music and cinematography, should definitely be in the running for greatest movie ever.
On it's dialogue - not only is it as witty as can be, it's also natural. So many moves known for "great" dialogue I think are also just too endlessly gimmicky in how the dialogue is delivered (Tarantino movies as an example - but the entertainment value often wins me over anyway).
