Yall would hate cycling. Anyone see Wout Van Aert's 'red bull gives you wings' celebration at the Vuelta yesterday?
I'm a self hating cyclist, so your comment checks out so far. Road cycling wins aren't so bad, put your hands up so the cameras can see the sponsor logo on your chest. Even better when they get pipped at the line due to premature celebration.
I’ve actually wondered if I was an elite / winning athlete whether I’d need to develop a decent winning or start line / camera pose. I’d use the 1980s Brit playground hand manoeuvre of “swivel” I reckon.
What are you talking about? That was great. Wilde actually loved it, fans loved it, Yee loved it. Me thinks you older generation and probably don't appreciate competition? Yee is the best runner in Triathlon right now.
“Wilde loved it”? If you take that supremely annoyed look as loving it, you must think everyone loves you 😄
'"no one watches my sport :( why can't people see that running/tris are fun?"
Internet proceeds to crap on a guy for a MILD (and kinda lame) celebration. He is a freaking Olympic Champ. If he wants to celebrate, let him celebrate. If you don't like his celebration, be faster
I agree that it was a pretty mild celebration. But the more interesting question is why there's any debate. Apparently it's Mbappe's trademark celebration, and it also wouldn't be out of place in the NBA or NFL. Personally, I like fun celebrations (e.g. Bolt's lightning bolt pose) and this one was totally fine.
One difference between track/triathlon celebrations and other sports is that one can start celebrating before crossing the line, as Yee did. He slowed down a little bit, and Wilde may have even had to clip his stride a little bit. (Why was the finishing chute so narrow? Imagine Hassan vs. Assefa on a road like this) Mbappe never celebrates before striking the ball (that I know of).
I wonder if that's consciously or subconsciously behind some of these negative reactions. It may very well be why Wilde threw his hands up in frustration. And slamming on the brakes can count as obstruction if it's intentional and impedes the runner behind, although this certainly wouldn't qualify.
Didn't Ovett start celebrating a win while he was still in second place, then kick to the lead and keep celebrating? I'm not talking about the race where he lost to John Treacy.
Triathlon is for those not good enough to run, bike or swim. They would finish dead last in an Olympic 10000m or the tour de France. Shut down this farce of a sport.
I'm just glad someone did something other than that supremely cringe 'shhh!' finger over mouth 'celebration'. Usually done by someone who no-one had been talking about in the first place.

Alex Yee and Hayden Wilde would not finish dead last in the Olympic 10000m if they dedicated themselves to training for the event full-time. Their run split after biking and swimming in Paris was already within 1 min of the last place finisher in Paris of the Mens' Olympic 10000m.

Yee was the British 10000m Champion at one point and I believe he also ran at the World U23 Cross Country Championships . Sub 13:30 in the 5k and sub 28 in the 10k at 20 years old is not bad. If he went down that path he could have been decent as a distance runner too.
