Impossible not to go out too hard up above 10k ft. In Leadville, you’re guilty til proven innocent.
Adrian is the only one in the top 5 that has proven he can race for 16hr up in the 2-mile high city, so my money is on him until someone else proves me wrong.
Lots of great 100mi racers in that top 10. But Leadville is just a different kind of race. Look for Kallembach to stay strong and Pat Cade to move up late.

And to answer the actual question, David is a qualified runner. He should be up near the front. That being said, he has a history of going out hard and blowing up at the longer races and this is his longest one yet. I’m rooting for him, but I’m envisioning more than planned flat walking around Turquiose and up the Boulevard.
Hello, this is 2021 calling. Saucony released their first carbon plate trail shoe (Endorphin Trail) that year which I got. It was better than no carbon but still a little rough around the edges, and so in '22 they replaced it with the Endorphin Edge, which I also got and still race in. Meanwhile, Hoka, Adidas and Nike to name a few have also jumped in the game and Walmsley has worn new prototype Hokas at UTMB last year, then newer proto's at Western States this year. and likely even newer proto's at UTMB in a couple weeks.
While trail super shoes are still a bit behind the development curve compared to their road counterparts, they're still making a huge impact in the game and will continue to do so going forward.
Looks like she’s back to predicted 18:XX finish already so no CRs going down today. I don’t see it ever happening on a warm year unless a complete stud shows up like Courtney or Jim

Adrian is crushing it on a very hot day nonetheless. Roche’s rabbitting definitely helped.
Matt Choi in the “influencer division” might have DNF’d, he has not registered at an aid station for a while. Dude posted ads during the race on his instagram, such a tool

When discussing what shoes he'd wear, David Roche was saying on his podcast ('some work all play') how the Adidas Terrex Agravic Speed Ultras, which he appears to be wearing, are the first of the carbon trail shoes that actually feels like a proper super shoe, he was raving about them.
There's been so many terrible carbon trail shoes that it's nice to know there's finally some progress.

Queen Ann's record turns 30 this year and still no one has come within 50 minutes of her time. It would be great to see Courtney or Katie Schide take a serious crack at it.
Amazing run by David. This race unfortunately has suffered. It’s just in a tough time of year. Top 100 milers are just going to choose CCC or UTMB. It’s a shame because it’s a great course. I think there are a good amount of runners who would have run under course record but David deserves all the credit in the world. Gutsy performance in your first 100.
David Roche? I bet Kevin Beck is hate-watching the live updates right now.
Who is Kevin Beck and what is the issue? Spill the tea!
He stopped updating his site a bit ago but he's a former RW writer who's got lots of vitriol for a lot of people, and Roche is one of his main targets.
Also, looks like Roche won! KEVIN BECK GOES HOME DEVASTA- oh wait, Beck doesn't really leave the house much nowadays, so I guess it's KEVIN BECK STAYS HOME DEVASTATED
