10k is enough for about 30 nights with a high class escort
Could also go the cheap route and get like 400 blowjobs from the neighborhood cr*ckhead (who knows, maybe she'll give you a deal and work out a daily/weekly bl*wj*b schedule if you promise to be a regular!)
I'd say that's much better use of funds than buying a piece of rock that she'll undoubtedly keep the minute she leaves your a$$ which she'll start planning the minute she gets the ring
Listen, I’m not against buying something nice, but a $10k f***ing ring?
What do I get in return? A few years of lay and then a dead bedroom?
The advise has been wrong so far - the advice needs to be for the woman to flee ASAP.
This woman is dating a guy who wants to know "what he gets in return" when proposes? You get a wife - a woman you should be pumped to spend the rest of your life with. I urge her to flee first.
Actually excellent take from rojo. If OP is not a troll, the way he’s looking at it transactionally should scare the woman away, never mind he’s making this thread at all.

I respectfully disagree Rojo. My wife actually bought our wedding rings herself, because I couldn’t have afforded anything at the time. That is how badly she wanted to marry me. Not surprisingly, years later we’re doing well with several kids and a strong relationship. If a woman sets demands on you beyond ethical behavior, a man should take a serious look at the relationship before moving forward.

The woman is already looking at it transactionally by expecting a ring of a certain value.
So, I make about $100k/year, and if a woman told me that's a big deal to her, it would seriously impact the way I view her and if I think she's someone I want to marry. It's not about being cheap or not cheap; it's about values. What does a ring do? Nothing. I would greatly prefer to spend that money on making memories together or something useful, something for our children, etc. If a woman really thought something like that was important enough to mention or talk about as if it might be a dealbreaker for her, it would indicate she and I have wildly different views on money and value and that we would probably see things very differently in life... Not a good indicator for a long happy marriage.
I might be in the minority of women, but I think it’s crazy stupid to spend that much on a ring. (Likewise stupid to spend 10’s of thousands of dollars on a wedding) I’d rather put that money towards a down payment on a house, or a sweet vacation.

It's considered typical to pay 2-3 months' salary for an engagement ring. So if you make around 50k a year, $10,000 is an expected price. Is it dumb that we spend so much on such a thing, culturally? Yes. But your girlfriend has expectations that many women have.
Says the jewelry stores. It's a freaking ring. No one can tell a real diamond from a synthetic diamond by looking. Get a nice setting and plant whatever you want to afford in the middle. BTW Queen Elizabeth's wedding ring had a sapphire stone. She wore it with aplomb.

You young guys need to be careful with these women

That's bad news young fella. When I was engaged to my wife in 1997, I bought her a cheapy engagement ring. It costs something like $99.00. She was thrilled to just engaged (her first marriage, my second). Was happily married for 19 yrs until she passed due to serious illness.

Good for you. But that's your relationship. It has nothing to do with the OP. So rojo's point still stands.
You are as usual correct Rojo. But your reasoning is off slightly. The reason she should run is because he posts here and is looking for others to tell him what to do.
beep boop. As I am a bot. As over 10,000 threads over 20 years and a TON of posts, these words have never been typed before and as never will be again again

Maybe you’re right, maybe they are perfect for each other. That’s assuming the woman is insisting on a $10k ring and not just pointing at the ring she honestly wants without thinking about it too much. Maybe this is a non-issue that could have easily been resolved through a brief conversation, but instead OP went to LetsRun and revealed he thinks of a wife as nothing more than a concubine.
