She was not far from a PR in a race that went out pretty slow. It wasn't flashy but you can't call it a bad performance.
She finished. There is that. But not much more.
She ran a great race, close to her PB, closed strong, is an Olympian, has great memories from the event, gained invaluable competitive experience. You? You post about her. But not much more.

I've been wondering why in reports of the race there has been no mention of the runner who came 11th. Yet this place is full of threads about that also-ran.

Fact: you are not posting about anyone in the top 10. But you are posting about 11th. In life, you are an also-ran.

Well, I actually also post about gold medallists so that can't be true. But I also do post about the losers. So here we are.
Because if one is under the influence of Valbymania then one has the…
Expectations of Great Things!!!
You have set the bar very low for "great things". Most would think that is a gold medal or at least a place - not 11th and invisibility to anyone who isn't part of her cult.

There are still posts about Tuohy and Ostrander and Cain. They are all washed up has-beens. They were good at a young age so they picked up some devoted fans. Valby is the fastest NCAA runner in history which just happened. Of course she will have many fans.
Try to be honest with yourself. Imagine what you would be writing if Tuohy had made the team? Would you really be refuting everyone calling her a loser when they would be saying that she is the future of the sport? Come on now.

Tuohy isn't the subject of these hyperbolic threads. It may be because she is a different kind of person and isn't marketed for her looks.
It is literal insanity. She could finish 3rd in the next Olympics and her haters would say that she will never win a gold.
If she finishes 3rd we would know she is as doped as much as the Kenyans and Ethiopians.
It’s unlikely she’ll win a bronze in any scenario. In the 10000m, she would need to be capable of running 2X her current 5000m PR, minus another 10 seconds.
