It's even more exciting with 3 Americans who all look capable of getting that 3rd spot. If Jakob and/or Kerr blow their loads too early and tie up there will be people right on their heels to take advantage. Kerr has also fallen in 33(.3 repeating of course)% of his last 3 races, so there's a chance of that.
Unless the Yanks have smuggled Giles into the stadium in an American vest, then The Tank won’t be a stumbling and a tumbling tonight. YEEHAW!
I was at the 2003 meet (also in Paris). An amazing race by all three.
I hope today's race lives up to the hype, it certainly is this era's dream mile/1500 race. However there have been olympics with the current and former mile record holders battling. There have been team tactics and just as interesting back stories.
I hope I'm wrong.
As an American, I think today's 1500m will have to go down as one of the greatest all-time mid-distance races. If I were a huge Ingebrigtsen fan (or a Brit), I'd say this was interesting but there have been other great races. But watching two fellow Americans grind out an insane final 200m to take down the two gold medal favorites was unforgettable. It's like Centro's 2016 win, but minus the obligatory "it was a really slow race" caveat. I watch Centro's gold medal race once every few months to pump myself up. Today's race is also going in the rotation for sure.
I certainly do not have the most nuanced historical perspective of distance races but .... I was saying that the 10k Saturday was the best race Ive ever watched and I had the most fun watching it screaming at TV out of my seat etc.... I am saying the same thing today.. that was incredible. Lets see what the rest of the week brings!!
