Okay well that's good. Yeah I'm guessing it's something as simple as that. But then everyone here is obsessed with Femke, so the math isn't adding up. Keely races a lot, tries hard, loves the sport, has nice things to say. I don't get it.
Because despite all the hype and posturing on here there's a masked fear of knowing that she gets outclassed in major events as will happen in a few hours. It's a false front being put on by her rabid fanbase knowing all too well she'll be leaving with a silver medal as usual.
Keely is a marvelous athlete with the best competitive temparament and approach in the sport. In races she has become a marvelous tactician...as she showed again today, measuring her effort, maintaining striking position, no panic, perfect effort distribution and as always a max effort homestretch run.
In preparation she is quiet and professional, relentlessly focused on her sport and the goals. The absolute opposite of Mu. The fact she is also very attractive and could model in no way comes between her and her preparation....as it does for Mu....
The entire weight of the UK was on her shoulders this week and she really delivered. I hope Seb Coe acknowledges this and says to her "You did exactly what I should have done in 1980"
The rounds cost everyone some zip in the final and she factored this in, not going insane when the pace slowed majorly after 200.
She can get close to the dopefueled Kratch WR with the help of a short rest and some great pacing on a still night in Brussels or Zuerich.
Nice post--OracleofDelphi. I saw her race again and believe that she did not give max effort at end. She coasted in following looking at screen. It is okay, victory was guaranteed, with more in tank if needed.

Great work Keely!
Rest? No American track and field athlete will face the media frenzy facing Keely when she gets back to the UK. Front page on most daily newspapers. I hope she makes time to keep her training going, and doesn't turn up at post- Olympic meetings in poor form.

Shortest post age-span in board history.
I think Keely not a bigger deal because she opened up the season in WR shape and slowly got in worse shape so although the favorite to win Gold, the way she ran 1:56 was disappointing. But that’s just from people here in Paris. I love that she won, no one will care about nuances of season in 2-3+ years. She lived up to the hype.
British T&F fans aren't comfortable with being the overwhelming favourite in any event. Fortunately, Keely seems to be cut from a different cloth. She's been there to be shot at for a couple of years now, so is well-versed in handling expectation and pressure.
Interesting. Then why is over-hyping the English football team a national pastime?
It's a championship race with one day recovery from the semi final. Keely said in interviews that there was a general vibe of everybody having lot some zip and feeling tired. 1.56 is hardly slow.
