Runners get more attractive to women as both parties get a bit older. Women improve at selecting men and their sense of attraction improves, because usually at age 20 they go for the loser men and they fail to realize these men are losers at this particular point. Most runners become winners, so as women gain a decent perception of potential in people, they can finally appreciate these men.
Males who are popular in middle school usually end up being losers in life. Nerds age well. Most of us runners from high school are nerds and did well in life, and now could get almost any girl from high school, although many of the knock outs didn't age well.
This is the real answer. Why would a woman go for a runner? You can fail to catch most prey whilst sprinters catch them straight away. Even when you do catch the prey, you won’t even be able to kill it because you’re emaciated. In fact the ‘prey’ might not even run away. It might just stare at you and laugh at how pathetic you are. Doesn’t help that running attracts unathletic, nerdy, dorky shells of men.
I'm 22 years old and have been running since 2017... Since Day 1, I always asked myself the question:
' Why do women find Runners Unattractive, when the human species managed to evolve, thanks to Distance running?'
You would think that the primal desire of women, is to be with a fast runner who is able to chase prey, but instead they are attracted to the complete opposite. I love running, and would never give up on the sport, regardless of the opinion of women. I'm just curious why this is the case.
Most male runners look pretty emaciated. Women generally don't find very skinny men attractive in the conventional sense. If you dress well and have an otherwise decent appearance and personality, the slenderness factor isn't that big of a deal. If you're a top runner in your cohort, then all the better, the runner ladies might well like your top status.
I will say, as you get older, being slender is a benefit as many other men tend to pack on bad weight. I think an athletic build... think soccer players that do strength training is probably the sweet spot for most women. You definitely want to avoid women who want the male bodybuilder look for an assortment of obvious and not so obvious reasons.
Also, avoid women who gravitate to fat men, lol.
I had an ex who liked fat men. I was the only skinny person she ever got with. All of her exes were fat. Once we broke up, she immediately got with a fat guy. She was also insane.
i think her preference for fat men had to with herself not wanting to be the fat one in the relationship, as she put on weight fast herself. At the end of our relationship, she weighed more than me.
if they are fat together, she feels the relationship is secure because typically fat men don’t have a lot of options.

In my high school popular males were "nerds". I've met a few of them on occasion after highschool and they all are very successful. They had girlfriends, they were partying and had above average grades. The hollywood cliche about the nerds being socially awkward was always puzzling to me because I didn't see this in my daily life in school. The most cliche nerd we had was a guy that was very popular among other "nerds" and had the respect of people outside his group too because he was exceptionally smart and also diligent. He had no interest in girls (wasn't gay).
I'de like to add that films like to portray people in in a cartoonish way just to make a stark contrast and create a story. Understandable. But real life humans are rarely like that.
The competitive runner's build is NOT attractive. No one wants to look like Galen Rupp.
Women like big guys. No woman wants to date a guy who weighs less than she does. She wants a big guy to protect her (even though she'll probably deny this).
Particularly, women like tall men. If you're a short guy, you better have A LOT going for you otherwise, and running isn't going to cut it. Women view short men the same way men view fat women. Do you want to date a fat woman?
I say all this as a short, skinny runner myself. I learned at an early age that women weren't interested in me. I accepted that, I respect their decision, and I leave them alone. The single life can be great if you decide to make the most of it.

The species didn't evolve because of distance runners, it evolved partly because of our ability to ensure long distances, mostly walking. Long hunts were periods of running followed by long periods of walking. In that aspect the mukti-day ultra is the real example of human evolution, not a fast road marathon. Hard to find roads thousands of years ago.
Second, when I was your age I ran and hit the gym. I could bench almost 100 lbs more than my weight for reps. It cost me running time but it made me a more all around balanced athlete and I had a lot of success.
And for the weirdos here that think short guys can't do well with women I was 5'6" and dated women up to 5'10".

The only cultures that haven’t evolved or advanced are the ones where distance runners or ultra runners thrive…. Let that sink in.
At my high school, the XC team consisted of the guys who just wanted to play a sport and they were not strong or powerful enough to make the football team. The football team consisted of the studly, popular guys and that was that.
The guys who couldn't make the basketball team in the winter went out for swimming or wrestling. The basketball team consisted of the guys the girls wanted to get with. Tall, fast, powerful.
This narrative that only the XC and Track teams yielded successful people is laughable. Our top wide receiver went to West Point and has an great job in Finance. Our point guard in basketball went on to medical school. Our kicker went to work at Netflix.

Why do runner bois always think that they should be dating the head cheerleader? Why do hot runner bois always want to be swolen up like a piece of balloon art?
Twenty years ago my boyfriend was a 5'11"/130lb 22 year old, who looked like a runway model. All lines and angles. Long legs, narrow hips, broad shoulders. Great personality, super affectionate, attentive, generous, very generously endowed, and great in bed. Heads turned when we walked down the street together.
But he always used to be self-conscious about his body, and would say he wanted to bulk up. I'd tell him not to, that he was hot and handsome the way he was.
Twenty years later now, I saw him recently, and he had indeed hit the gym. Probably up to about 175-180 lbs. Same sweet guy, but he looked more like prize-winning livestock than a male model--zero physical attractiveness (to me). He seemed happy, so I'm happy for him, but bulk and mass don't age well.
Bottom line: That effortless runner's build won't last forever. Find the people who are attracted to that, and work it while you got it.
I wasn’t exactly a ladies man, but never had trouble finding dates or a girlfriend. Married 20 years to a former collegiate swimmer.
Joe Bosshard did pretty well for himself, as did Adam Goucher.
Runners might not be the magnet at the night club, but if you can’t find a girl, being a runner is not the problem.
It's a while back now in England, but as I remember most of the people on the team that I ran for were either married or had girlfriends, and I think virtually all of the ones I keep in contact with are married.
I will say that a lot did marry other runners, but that's what the social circle tended to primarily consist of.

Maybe they find you unattractive.
Maybe it's your personality and how you come across.

I've always wondered about this, but more so for middle distance.
I ran a top 25 800m time (2.04) in the UK as a 14 year old off the back of the mileage I did for tennis - just basically running the odd race for my school team - but within a year I'd hit the weight room to bulk up for rugby and that was that. I was in the first year of being an under 15 when I was top 25, too, so would likely have been notably faster if all else was equal but I'd been a year older.
It was the same with basically every other athletic kid I knew. The guy who was eventually county number 1 in the 800m at under 17 level was barely taking 4th at most meets despite being the only lad going to an athletics club.
A huge part of it, for me, was the social kudos I got for looking a certain way and for playing certain sports (namely rugby) and being athletic (dunking basketballs, having male classmates hype up gym lifts / athletic feats etc).
I can't understate how much it did for getting girls, but also - true to the cliche - it also meant a lot of respect from men, notably PE teachers. It'll be like that on steroids in the US where high school sport is 10x what it is in the UK.
